Deodorant is crucial and unfortunately, many people have suffered a bad deodorant experience at one point or the other. The first mistake that people often make is failing to grasp the difference between deodorant and antiperspirant, which are two completely different products. The purpose of the deodorant is to neutralize the odors that result from sweating by killing bacteria, they do not stop you from perspiring. They simply eliminate or mask the smell of the bacteria.
Antiperspirant, on the other hand, is designed to block sweat from reaching the skin hence preventing the body from producing sweat.
Although further research is still necessary to validate these claims, some antiperspirants have been linked to breast cancer and Alzheimer’s. It is advisable to choose a natural deodorant that does not stop the body’s natural processes but simply masks the smell and kills bacteria. A good deodorant should be able to:
* Naturally eliminate bad smells
Bad body odor is caused by the bacteria that live on your skin. You may have noticed it in your under arms or feet. You need something like this deodorant that naturally kills these bacteria and fungi eventually eliminating the bad odors they produce. The ingredients in the deodorant that do this include plant extracts and organic essential oils.
* No scents
A nice smelling deodorant seems like a good idea. However, perfumes are made from oil distilled in alcohol, which is not good for your skin. An all-natural product that is effective does not have a scent and you can leave the perfume for your clothes. A good deodorant is not scented and you can be sure its fighting body odor when you cannot pick up the nasty smell anymore.
* Usable on any part of the body that produces odors
If you have body odor issues, you have probably realized that the underarms are only one of the areas where bad body odor emanates. It may be from your neck, back, feet or chest as well. You can use a natural deodorant on any part of your body where you want to eliminate bad odors without any itching or irritation.
* No chemicals or toxins
Most of the bad experiences that people have had with deodorant often involve itching, irritation, redness or rashes in the affected area. This could be due to the ingredients used in the production of the deodorant that irritate the skin. A natural product is made from all-natural sources such as plant extracts and essential oils. The deodorant should not contain any chemical toxins that irritate the skin often found in cosmetic products such as fragrance, Hydroquinone, parabens and polyethylene glycol.
* Deodorant that matches your style
Finally, when choosing the best deodorant for women, remember to pick one that lasts all day without the need for frequent reapplication. It should never leave any white marks on your clothing and should be quick-drying for your comfort. All this, coupled with an easy-to-use package and you are good to go.
Quick drying and fragrance free are the top two that I look for. I have very sensitive skin so it is important for me to have something that is natural and doesn’t cause a rash.
I’m lucky that I don’t sweat very much so I don’t use an antiperspirant. I use Tom’s of Maine natural deodorant and it works well for me.
I am glad to be able now to comment on your posts. I was not aware that scented deodorants could be bad for your skin and I am disappointed because I love the scents. Well, I guess I shall use a natural deodorant and then perfume.
