Gourmet Honey Products and Sea Salts from New Zealand

January 20, 2016 by Kristine

Pacific Resources InternationalI was recently introduced to a company that brings a taste of New Zealand to your door with a variety of pure and natural products. Pacific Resources International (PRI) is a family-owned company that has been an exclusive importer of high-quality New Zealand products for the past 25 years. They pride themselves on providing an outstanding level of customer service and exceptional products, such as their Manuka Honey, that they were the first to import into the US. Additionally, they also deliver other top quality products onto US shores such as Clean Pacific Sea Salt and natural body care products.

I received a variety of products from PRI to try out, which included honey, honey-based products as well as multiple sea salts. I’ll give you an overview of the honey products first.

Manuka Honey Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) 5+ – this honey is sourced from a small shrub-like tree that grows in clusters on hillsides, in coastal areas and at the edges of the New Zealand bush. In the early summer, the tree produces bee-attracting flowers and hence, the nectar is collected to make this unique Manuka honey. This honey contains all of the properties of raw honey, has an incredibly rich and distinguishing flavor and smells so delicious. I’ve been using it in tea and plan to cook some recipes with it as well. Additionally, honey can also be used for digestive conditions and wound treatment. I wasn’t aware, but honey actually has a grading scale and this particular honey is rated a 5+. Active UMF 5+ Manuka Honey is guaranteed to have a total antibacterial activity level of 5 or higher. This is greater than most honeys and standard antiseptics.

Manuka Honey Nuggets – these Bio Active Manuka Honey Nuggets are a sweet little hard candy that is ideal for helping soothe dry throats. These nuggets are 100% natural, contain no preservatives or artificial flavors, are fat free, non-GMO and gluten free and have a very simple and pure taste.

Dark Chocolate Manuka Honey – these award winning chocolates are made by wrapping dark chocolate around the finest New Zealand Manuka Honey and adding a touch of mint. PRI’s Active Manuka Honey Mints contain only 3 simple ingredients: Pure Manuka Honey, Dark Chocolate-99% Cocoa, and Oil of Peppermint. They are all natural, gluten free, dairy free and kosher with no use of artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. They are also very tasty and satisfy my chocolate sweet tooth for sure!

Makuna Honey Chocolate Selection Box – this is perfect little box of Manuka Honey Chocolates that feature both the mint and ginger flavors (also yummy). This would make a sweet little gift for someone.

Manuka Honey Strawberry Lollipops – these Strawberry and Manuka Honey Lollipops are sweet tasting and have the benefits of Propolis & Manuka Honey to help fight off infections. These are a healthy treat for all ages, but are especially great for children over 2 years of age to help soothe sore, scratchy throats. These organic lollipops are tasty, are non-GMO, gluten free and incredibly soothing.

Manuka Honey NPA 10+ Lozenges with Propolis – this product is ideal for “tackling the tickle” with the combination of Propolis with the soothing qualities of pure New Zealand NPA 10+ Active Manuka honey. These Lemon and Honey Lozenges also contain organic brown rice syrup and help to ease the symptoms of sore throats, which are hard to avoid during the winter months. The lozenges contain no corn syrup, are non-GMO.

Pri Sea Salts

As I mentioned, we also received three of PRI’s Sea Salts. You can truly taste the difference when you use a quality sea salt and these natural and organic salts from New Zealand are exceptional. Sea salt is obtained from solar evaporation of seawater and is entirely different from modern refined salt. It contains a variety of minerals that play a role in keeping the body’s electrolytes balanced. Here’s an overview of the Sea Salts we tried out:

Pacific Natural Sea Salt Fine – this is an excellent table and cooking salt that contains no additives. It is harvested from the great southern oceans surrounding New Zealand. These waters are evaporated in Solar Salt Fields using the natural process of sun and wind. Once a year the salt is carefully gathered while taking measures to maintain the balance of minerals naturally present in the salt. I’ve been using this salt, mixed with some ground pepper, to season steaks and burgers prior to cooking.

Bio Gro Certified Pacific Sea Salt Flaky Salt – this salt is the perfect accompaniment to any meal. It is perfect for cooking or as a finishing salt. It has a wonderful taste and texture and is a top-quality product with a very affordable price. While this salt looks large, it’s easy to grind down in your fingertips. I’ve been using it to finish shellfish dishes as well as on vegetables and I absolutely love this product.

Mesquite Smoked Pacific Sea Salt Fine Shaker – this is a flavorful, clean New Zealand Pacific Sea Salt with no additives. It contains all of the natural healthy trace elements from the solar and wind drying, combined with the secret Louisiana family smoked Mesquite process. This salt will add a nice kick to your favorite Cajun and barbeque dishes or give a new twist to a salad recipe.

Overall, this company has a wide variety of products to choose from at www.shoppri.com and they offer free shipping on orders over $20.

Giveaway: One lucky reader is going to win a PRI prize package giveaway worth $75. You’ll receive all of the same quality products that I received!
