Flaviar Tasting Boxes for Adventurous Drinkers

I love a good mixed drink, especially a Moscow Mule in a copper mug, but am always open to trying and exploring new spirits to expand my cocktail repertoire. No one wants to be a boring beverage drinker, right?

I was recently introduced to Flaviar, which is a fun and unique concept for drink enthusiasts. Flaviar is a flexible service that delivers monthly Tasting Boxes for people who want to discover and taste the world of Spirits a little at a time, at a fraction of the regular price. Flaviar is like a little private club that serves you tastes of some of the newest and most exciting spirits in the comfort of your own home.

There are two ways to enjoy Flaviar. The first is to become a Prime Member and receive a convenient service of monthly Tasting Boxes which contain three premium spirits (that are limited time offers). Once you find a spirit that you enjoy, you can order a full-size bottle with free shipping. The second way is to order from the Spirit Flight menu. This option will get you 5 premium samples, which are pre-made selections that are always available as one-off purchases at the Flaviar online store.

I received one of the Spirit Flight boxes, which contained everything I needed to enjoy a swashbuckling good time! The box featured a rum selection that the Flaviar folks call “Here Be Pirates, Yo-Ho.” The box included the following rum samples:

• Kraken Black Spiced Rum – my favorite of the lot, this rum is distilled in pot stills on the Virgin Islands and fermented from molasses made from sugar cane. It is then aged in oak barrels for 12 to 24 months before being blended with spices such as cinnamon, ginger and clove.
• Ron de Jeremy – a 7 year old dark Panamanian Rum, crafted by the Cuban Master Distiller, Francisco “Don Pancho” Fernandez.
• Don Maderas PX 5YO+ 5YO Rum – this is a triple aged rum that originates from aged rum stocks of Barbados and Guyana. It is aged in three steps, giving it a new taste profile, called “Sherried Rum.”
• Pyrat XO Reserve Rum – this is a very unique rum that is a semi-complex blend of select Caribbean rums, aged up to 15 years in French Limousin and American sweet oak barrels.
• Ron Zacapa Solera 23 – this rum uses only the concentrated first press of sugar cane, known as virgin sugar cane honey. When fermentation starts, a strain of yeast extracted from pineapples is used, which produces unique “Zacapa” aromatic compounds. It is aged above sea level at one of the highest ageing facilities in the world.

This Spirit Flight box is available on the Flaviar website (along with nine other box options) for $42.99. Prices range with each box.

STEP 1: Subscribe, get a tasting box and enjoy the carefully curated drinks that Flaviar delivers every month. Drinks can range from whisky, rum, cognac, gin, vodka, grappa, tequila and more. A trial month costs $18.99, then after the first month costs $24.99 per month.

STEP 2: Invite your friends and organize Flaviar tasting party. FYI, one tasting box is enough for 3 people.

STEP 3: Organize the “my bar” page and rate your drinks, keep track of what you’ve tasted and what you really want to taste.
