Craft Project – 3 Snowmen in a Wash Tub

Snowmen in Wash BasinThe holidays are over but that doesn’t mean that you have to put away all of your winter theme decorations or that you have to stop making them. Nope, not at all. During the winter season I decorate with snowmen all season long! I’ll put them out the end of November and I’ll let them out until the end of February. I make sure that I use a snowman theme with nothing “Christmas” on them.

Today’s craft project is fairly easy to make. I made several of them in one afternoon and gave most of them away. Aren’t they cute? I think so! I think in the Fall I’m going to make a slew of them up for our church’s annual craft bazaar that they host every year.

Craft Project: 3 Snowmen in a Wash Bucket

Supplies Needed:

3 – 1 1/2″ round wood balls
3 – 1″ round wood balls
E6000 Adhesive or Hot Glue Gun
Acrylic Paint – white, black, orange and red + paint brush
Chalk Markers – Instead of using paints, use chalk markers
White Fiberfill Stuffing
Metal Wash Bucket 4 1/2″ diameter by 3″ tall
Piece of Floral Foam
Scissors
1 Knitted Child’s Glove
Scraps of Fleece or Fabric
Black Marker with Fine Point

To start off with…cut a piece of floral foam to sit down inside the metal wash bucket. Each bucket will be a different shape or size…so I just traced around the bucket and chopped away until my piece of floral foam fit snuggly down inside the wash bucket. You’ll want to leave about 1 1/2″ of space at the top and then glue some white fiberfill on top to resemble freshly fallen snow. Set aside.

You can use acrylic paints or chalk paints to paint the round wooden balls white. I put two coats onto my balls and left them dry for about an hour or so. Use E6000 or a hot glue gun to glue to two balls together form 3 different snowmen. Once dry and firm…use paints or markers to add black eyes, an orange nose, red mouth and we added a little red heart onto their chest. Let dry.

While they are drying…use scissors to fit the fingertips off of a pair of child’s knitted gloves. I got mine at the Dollar Store. You’ll need 3 fingertips with each one measuring about 1 1/2″ to 2″ tall, depending on how tall you want their hats to be. Glue them on top of their heads. To finish up, cut a piece of fleece to measure 1/2″ by 5″ long and tie it around their necks to represent their scarves. You can trim the ends to whatever length you want or to add fringe.

Glue your new snowmen on top of the “faux snow” using E6000 or hot glue (I find the E6000 works better for me but takes longer to dry). To finish up…use a fine point black maker and right the words “Rub-a-Dub-Dub 3 Snowmen in a Tub” around the metal wash bucket. You’re done!
