5 Natural Ways to Clean Your Toilet
Cleaning toilets, we’ve all got to do it at some point or another. For me personally, all three of my bathrooms get cleaned twice a week. I don’t mind cleaning bathrooms and actually enjoy it until I get to the part of scrubbing the toilet bowl. It just grosses me out!
With that said, I try to avoid harsh chemical cleaners as much as possible and over the years…I’ve found a few natural cleaning products that work fantastic at getting that toilet bowl clean!
5 Natural Ways to Clean Your Toilet
1. Vinegar – white vinegar is a great all-purpose, all natural cleaning product to have around your home. It will naturally clean your toilet, disinfect it and get that bowl gleaming white!
I like to pour about a 1/8 of a cup into my toilet bowl and let it sit for about an hour. I then take my toilet scrub brush…scrub the bowl, flush and I’m done.
2. Lemon Juice – you can use bottled or fresh lemon juice to clean the bowl of your toilet. Not only does the lemon juice clean the bowl…but your bathroom will smell refreshed too!
I like to pour about 1/8 of a cup into my bowl and let it sit for about an hour. I then use my toilet scrub brush, scrub the bowl and flush. I also keep lemon juice mixed with water in a spray bottle and will use that to wipe down the seat and lid.
3. Baking Soda – got stains in your bowl? Try scrubbing those stains with a little bit of baking soda and your scrub brush. While I haven’t found this to be effective with extreme staining…I have found it effective to remove minor toilet bowl stains.
4. Tea Tree Oil – is a natural disinfectant. If you want to naturally kill germs in your bowl…add 2 tbsp. of tea tree oil in your bowl and let it sit for an hour or two. Once done…use your scrub brush (if your bowl needs a good cleaning) or just flush.
5. Super Washing Soda – this is a product that I buy from Arm & Hammer that acts as a natural water softener. It will help to dissolve hard water stains in your toilet bowl. Sprinkle it into the toilet and scrub away your hard water stains.
Final Tip – Make sure you regularly clean your toilet scrub brush or replace it frequently! You can spray it with a natural disinfectant or simply purchase a new one every 2 months from your local dollar discount store (not eco-friendly but if you’re not going to clean & disinfect your brush…it’s the next best way to stop the spread of germs).
