Many people put off needed upgrades to their home because they are afraid the cost to hire a contractor will be too high. They worry that they will not be able to do the upgrades on their own, and that they will not be able to afford a professional to do the job.
There is good news if you have been putting off replacing your old medicine cabinet. If you have been dreaming of replacing that unsightly medicine cabinet with a brand new mirror cabinet, you do not have to put it off one day longer. With a few simple materials and supplies and a couple hours of your spare time, you can remove that old medicine cabinet and replace it with one your family will be proud to use.
Here are the steps you will need to replace your medicine cabinet with ease.
• Remove everything from your existing medicine cabinet and set it aside.
• Loosen and remove the screws that hold the interior of the old medicine cabinet to the wall studs. Carefully pull the old cabinet out and set it aside.
• Take out the shelves in the new medicine cabinet. Remove the door from the cabinet by removing the screws that hold the hinges in place.
• Hold the new medicine cabinet against the wall in the position where you want to install it. Place a level on top of the cabinet and use it to align the top. Place reference marks on the wall and set the cabinet aside.
• Use a stud finder to locate the wall studs between the reference marks you made. Mark the location of each stud.
• Place the new medicine cabinet against the wall and align it with the reference marks. Use the stud marks as guides, then drive two wood screws through the back of the cabinet and into the studs.
• Reattach the door hinges to the newly hung medicine cabinet using the screws you set aside earlier.
• Install the shelves in the new medicine cabinet and place your items inside.
As you can see, installing a new medicine cabinet is not the daunting task many homeowners think it is. If you can use a screwdriver and read a level, you can replace your old unsightly medicine cabinet with a brand new mirrored model.
Whether you buy your new medicine cabinet online or head to the local home improvement warehouse, you can install it in just an hour or two. Once that new medicine cabinet is in place, you may wonder why you put off replacing the old one for so long.
Some home improvement projects really do take a long time and require the guidance of an expert, but replacing the medicine cabinet is not one of them. Replacing the medicine cabinet is one of the simplest home upgrades you can do, and installing a new mirrored cabinet in your bathroom will make the entire room look better.

These are really great step by step guides to install a new medicine cabinet. they make it sound possible for me to do!
This doesn’t seem too hard, I might just give it a try. I’ve tried other repairs/upgrades by watching videos online or reading how-to pages. They’ve all turned out fine, but they always took me longer to finish then the posters said. I always seem to find something that makes it more difficult, like a screw with the head broken off. It’s still cheaper than hiring someone to do it and though it takes me longer there is a lot of satisfaction in knowing I’ve done it. thanks for the post.
Nowdays mediicine cabinets are pretty basic and also pretty easy. I am married to a carpenter and the toughest part is just the plumbing. I have found a lot of folks dont even know where to shut off their water! It isnt tough because so much is prebuilt now. I prefer the older stuff myself only because the quality is better, but then too most dont stay in homes for all that long or they update frequently.
We sure need to update our medicine cabinet in our bathroom. I had no idea that you could order these online. I also never dreamed of doing it myself but it sounds pretty easy. You are so right the cost of labor is what really scares me off. The last time we had to call a plumber to do some work I thought I was going to have a heart attack when we got the bill I think we are putting his kids through Harvard or something! And of course the end price is always always always more than what they quoted you. Thanks for the great post I think I will be brave and try it ourselves. Have a great rest of the weekend.
