I can’t believe it but…New Year’s Eve is finally here! When I was a little girl I spent many of my New Year’s Eves with my great aunt and uncle. They used to keep my brother and I overnight and we would always order out for pizza and watch the ball drop in Time’s Square.
Once I got married and had a child of my own…we basically continued that family tradition. Every time New Year’s Eve would roll around…we would order out for pizza and steam up some shrimp & crab legs and sit down as a family to play board games & watch the ball drop in Time’s Square.
Then we went through a period after our daughter moved out on her own where my husband and I would get together with close friends and go to a New Year’s Eve party or we would all get together and go downtown (locally here in Pennsylvania) and watch the strawberry drop on Strawberry Square (it’s a large downtown mall). We did that for several years and it was fun doing adult activities for once!
Now we are grandparents to a 6 1/2 year old little girl and a 4 month old little boy. It’s time to change our routine once again! This year we are having a sleepover with both of our grandchildren! We will be ordering some takeout pizza and steaming up some seafood later tonight, playing some family board games and back to watching the ball drop in Time’s Square.
It’s amazing how traditions change as your family life changes over the years! With that said, I’ve always gotten a great big kiss and a hug from Hubby every year when the clock strikes midnight!
So, I wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year’s Eve and I wanted to know if you have any family traditions? Do you go out and do something fun or do you stay-in and do something together as a family?

Happy 2016 to you and family! I hope the sleepover went well and you are smiling. We, are like your family, staying in and watching the ball drop. Snacks are a must. When the kids were younger, we would play board games. Our grown daughter lives with my husband and I. The three of us watched movies until time to see the ball drop then flipped over for that magical countdown. My daughter typically makes us all shots to drink to welcome in the new year. We all enjoy staying in, keeping it simple, and just realizing how blessed and loved we all are.
We have been celebrating with the same set of friends for 20+ years. We always have a lot of fun whether it is out or a quieter get together at someone’s house. I must admit though it is getting harder to stay up until midnight.
I have never gone out to party on New Year’s Eve. it always seemed to be too hectic. usually we watch TV, eat special snacks and wait for the ball to drop and wish each other Happy New Year.
I’ve never really ‘celebrated’ New Year’s Eve. We do usually flip back & forth between the countdown shows to see who’s performing & watch the ball drop, but I’ve never gone to a New Year’s party. I don’t think I would enjoy that kind of jam-packed crowd. I guess, I’m an at home celebrator, lol.
I went to bed early but when I was a kid watching Dick Clark in Times Square was a must do.
Our family never really celebrated the new year…we were all too worn out from celebrating Christmas. When I was younger I used to go to New Year’s parties, but now there are so many people who have been drinking on the roads, it just makes more sense to stay home and relax with wine and a good movie.
Happy New Year’s Eve to you and yours tonight. I can’t believe it will be 2016 in only a few hours. It seems like this year just flew by in fast forward. I used to go out and party on New Year’s Eve but as the years have gone by I have mellowed out. I like to watch the ball drop on television at Midnight and we usually have a nice dinner and call family to wish them a Happy New Year. Here’s wishing you the very best in 2016 God Bless.
