I love going out after the holidays and looking for special deals. When I talk about special deals…I’m not talking about 10% or 20% off. Nope, when I go bargain shopping…I’m looking to save at least 50% off the normal retail price.
One of my favorite stores to hit after any holiday is Big Lot’s. I don’t find their food and beverage items to be a bargain because I can pick those things up at my grocery store (with a coupon or on sale) for cheaper or a discount grocery store like Aldi’s for much less. I avoid those items.
However, I love to check out their leftover Christmas home decor, small kitchen appliances, housewares and of course…their toys & games!
I had earned a coupon from Big Lots before the holidays to get $10.00 off any $50.00 or more purchase. I could use this coupon on clearance merchandise which sweetened the deal.
I headed to the store yesterday and I hit the mother load on girl’s craft kits. I’ve seen them in other stores for $19.99 each but Big Lot’s originally had them for $10.00. On top of that, they had marked down each of those craft kits to only $5.00 each! All of the little girls in my family love arts & crafts (along with jewelry making) so I snagged up all 7 craft kits that they had left for $35.00. Wow…each one would of originally cost me $20.00 a piece and I got 7 of them for $35.00. They will make great Valentine’s Day, Birthday and Easter gifts during the first half of the year.
In addition to those bargains I picked up a plastic tarp for our riding lawn mower for $5.00, a 4-pack of DVD movies for $3.00, battery-operated holiday lights for $2.00, a pack of Huggies baby wipes for $2.00 and a pack of turquoise shiny metallic ribbon for .50 cents. Not shown in the photo was a pack of turquoise Christmas tree ball ornaments for $2.50.
My total was $50.00 (everything on clearance) and I used my coupon and got another $10.00 off. My total was $40.00 plus tax! If I had paid full retail price for all of this stuff…it would of been over $150.00. Yay! I love bargain and deal shopping!
So, did you go out immediately after the Christmas holiday and snag up any bargains and deals? If so, what did you get?

Sadly for me, the nearest Big Lots is over an hour away, so I rarely get there. We did get to the LL Bean outlet over the weekend, though, and we found two sweaters for my spouse, both of which were marked down 50% from their original prices, with an extra 30% off. Score! And today I got to WalMart (which I really don’t like but it’s the only game in town) and I found some clearance deals on baking supplies. Score!
I really like the coupons that can be used with sale and bargain items. I actually did some clothes shopping and was able to walk out with a bagful of sweaters and pants for myself and grandkids for under 50 including tax.
Oh, I agree about Big Lots, lol! You never know what you might find there. I always check their skincare/shampoos, too because once in a while you find expensive stuff at a Big Lots price! (I do check their food stuffs just to look for the stuff I’ve never heard of, often with labels that seem designed for another market.)
You did great at Big Lots! That coupon is awesome- especially if you can use it on clearance! I love Big Lots for frames, toys, beauty and bath products and small furnishings. I got a rug for a steal there.
I didnt go out this year mostly because of the weather. It rained, snowed stormed you name it. It is usually how I get my niece’s next years gifts. I like it when the fragrances and makeup sets and such really go on sale,. The girls always love everything!
I usually just pick up Christmas decor and wrapping paper after the holidays, but it’s great that other items like toys are on sale too.
No I didn’t get out this year!! But I know what you mean There are really good bargains out there! It is the Best time to buy an artificial Christmas tree , ornaments, Christmas Decorations and Christmas cards for next year. My husband and I use to go out for all of those things after Christmas when we were younger! You really did well . Getting all 7 Craft kits and other things and only spending $40 plus tax! That’s Awesome! Thankyou for posting this very useful Post!! 🙂
Not really looking for any clearance sales. Wind chill of -8 and I’d rather be warm. You got some great bargains.
Wow! You really were able to find some great deals. I love to find bargains after Christmas too.
