Enjoy a Winter Holiday In Italy

December 4, 2015 by Shelly

Italy is such a beautiful nation, and it’s unique in that it stays stunning throughout all four seasons. Unlike many vacation destinations, it’s just as charming during the colder months – if not more so – as it is in the summer. Despite its beautiful beaches and cities which require lots of walking and ideally dry weather, you can still find plenty to do even in the darkest depths of winter. Sure, your ‘gelato’ might seem a little pointless when it’s below freezing outside, but you’ll always make up for it with a hearty bowl of pasta! EAT!

Eat!
Which leads perfectly onto the first point. THE FOOD!

No matter what time of year it is, nothing gets in the way of a real, authentic Italian dish. Forget everything you think you know about the cuisine, it’s absolutely divine in Italy, especially in the less touristy places. Enjoy pizza done the right way or a fresh, herbalicious ragu… you’ll be craving it for days on end upon your return, guaranteed! You might want to pack comfy pants, though… the Italians aren’t known for calorie counting and they often have a billion courses per sitting. Yum, all part of the fun!

TAKE IN THE CULTURE!

There’s so much culture in Italy, whether you’re interested in the religious aspects in Rome (and the Vatican), or you want to indulge in art or music, or even fashion, it’s all catered for, and in fact, it has some of the most exciting culture in the world.

Of course, sport is a pretty big deal, and you’ll find their soccer/football teams take pride of place. Italy’s top league is called Serie A, and hosts some of the best players in the world. If you’re a sports fan why not catch a game while you’re there?

GET INVOLVED IN SPORT YOURSELF!

Of course, with so many mountains and so much snow in the north, you’d be mad not to give skiing or snowboarding a go! There are loads of resorts you can choose from, and you can pick activities to suit you. Whether you’re in a relationship, with friends or you’re bringing the kids, everyone will find something ideal to make their trip memorable. Just make sure to take out extra travel insurance to cover anything that might be classed as ‘extreme’!

CHECK IN TO A SPA!

There are mountains in abundance across the Italian Alps, and so they really are a wondrous sight to be marvelled at. There’s really no better place for a relaxing trip away with the girls, set to the backdrop of absolute paradise! Presolana is a rustic and quaint little town with delicious food and friendly people, despite not many people speaking English! It also has a beautiful spa at the Grand Hotel Presolana, complete with two pools, great views, aroma showers and massage rooms. Plus the great news is that it’s close to the popular city of Bergamo so it’s easy to fly to and there’s plenty to do there as well!

My husband and I spent a week in Rome a few years ago and it was fabulous. I would love to return. So much to see and do and easy to get around. And the food and coffee is fabulous.

I would love to see Italy. I know I would just go from one restaurant to another, lol. OK, I would do a little sightseeing, too.

I had no idea that Italy had mountains like this one. Thanks for posting this beautiful picture. I have always wanted to travel to Italy. I love Italian food and clothing. I think I would have a total blast on a long trip there. There is so much to see and learn there. I love the culture and there is so much history in that country.
