Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

December 5, 2015 by Shelly

The Christmas holiday would not be complete without a freshly baked batch of chocolate chip cookies! Every year…I bake several batches of these and they’re a family favorite. On top of that, these cookies are moist and chewy…not crumbly & dry like most other recipes. I think the secret ingredient that makes them moist and delicious is the addition of sour cream or buttermilk. I make them both ways but if I had to choose, the buttermilk is my preferred way!

When I’m really in my baking mood…I’ll bake up 2 batches of them. Once they’re cool…I like to place about a dozen cookies into a zipper closure bag and freeze them for later use. They freeze really well!

Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

1 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup sour cream or buttermilk
2 cups milk chocolate chips

Directions: Mix all ingredients together in the order that they are given in the recipe. Drop by the teaspoonful onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until done. Remove from the oven and place on a cooling rack to cool. Once done, store them in an airtight container.

This sounds like a great recipe with the sour cream or buttermilk in the chocolate chip cookies. I shall try this variation when I next make chocolate chip cookies

W love chocolate chip cookies and they are one of the few coookies I bake year round. Like you I also freeze some or they would all be eaten up within days. I think taking them out and heating them up a bit in the microwave with a glass of milk or a cup of coffee cant be beat
    Yours look great!

I make chocolate chip cookies several times a week. My nephews love them, so I make them, lol. It’s cheaper than buying store-bought & they taste better, too. This recipe looks delicious!

Chocolate chip are a favorite in my household so I am very interested in trying this recipe. They looks chewy and softer than the ones from the recipe on the back of the package that I use. I am going to try these for sure.

Boy I sure could use a plate of these today. It has been one of those days when everything went wrong. This recipe sounds really good and I would love to try it with the sour cream/buttermilk. I love to have my chocolate chip cookies really soft because I have super sensitive teeth. Thanks for sharing this recipe I have never seen this one before. Hope you have a nice rest of the weekend.
