I look forward to the holiday season for many reasons—cozying up to the fireplace with my family, holiday parties, get-togethers with friends, sparkling lights on Christmas trees and of course, holiday baking! I have very fond memories growing up and making Christmas cookies with my mom and my grandma. It just doesn’t feel like Christmas without days of cookie making and a kitchen filled with delicious treats. I have my regular recipes I always make, but each year I search for a few new recipes to try out.
Luckily, I was asked to review a cookbook that is full of wonderful recipes. CHRISTMAS COOKIES: Dozens of Classic Yuletide Treats for the Whole Family by Monika Romer is a newly released hardcover book that will bring out the holiday spirit (and holiday sweet tooth) for sure.
Baking during the holidays is a ritual for some and others may be thinking of starting a new tradition. This cookbook contains a variety of simple, yet enjoyable cookie recipes for bakers of all levels. There are many festive and fantastic sections in this cookbook including Colorful Cookies, International Specialties, and Cut-Out Cookies and Icing Drizzles to name a few. There is even a section on baking with children, which is ideal for baking with your little ones when they are out of school during their holiday breaks. My son is starting to bake with me and help out a lot in the kitchen. We are planning to try out the Oatmeal Cookie recipe and even aspiring to whip and construct up a Gingerbread House.
