7 Essentials for a Good Night’s Rest While Traveling

My husband and I do a lot of traveling for both business and pleasure. When we travel we know how important it is to get a good night’s rest before heading out the next day. Let’s face it…none of us function well on 2-3 hours of slumber-time and worse yet…if our body aches from not resting well, our entire day will be miserable.

Here are the Essentials for a Good Night’s Rest While Traveling:

1. Comfortable & Supportive Mattress – This is crucial and key to getting the slumber time that you need. If it’s a broken down mattress with lumps, bumps and things poking at you…well, you’ll toss and turn all night. We all need a great mattress so that we rest for at least 8 hours before starting our day.

2. Bed Linens – These are often over-looked by travelers. I want freshly laundered linens on my hotel bed that are soft and slightly over-sized. I also prefer them in pleasing & soothing colors. I want to feel like a baby in a soft baby blanket when I go to bed at night. How about you?

3. Pillows, Pillows and Pillows – I want ample pillows on my bed. In addition to that, I often call the front desk and ask for more and those need to be made available to travelers who need additional ones. There is nothing worse when the hotel desk tells you that no additional pillows are available. In addition, I want those pillows to be plump, supportive and smelling good!

4. Proper Lighting – I like to lay in bed and relax before drifting off to lala land. I like the lighting to be soft in my rest area but yet bright enough so that I can read a book while relaxing. In addition, I don’t want to get out of bed to adjust lighting or turn it off when I’m ready to snooze. I want it to be within my reach.

5. Quiet – I can’t tell you how many times we have traveled and had to call the front desk to complain about noise after 11pm. Seriously, more times than I care to admit! People need to be respectful of other travelers for sure and keep the noise down after a certain hour. I look for hotels that are quiet or ones that I know will quickly handle a noise problem if one should occur.

6. Proper Temperature – Many travelers don’t think about the temperature of their room until well…there’s a problem! I always ask (and never assume) that we will have individual room temperature controls in our room.

7. Comfortable Clothing – Okay, this one really doesn’t have to do with the hotel, motel or inn that you may be staying at but it’s important too! When you want a good night’s rest…it’s important to pack comfortable clothing to lounge in. I tend to pack my finest when we hit the road!
