Thanksgiving Gluten Free Recipe Tips

With the holidays upon us and family and friends gathering, it is time to start thinking about transitioning some of our favorite foods and recipes to gluten free. With more and more people becoming sensitive to gluten, having some choices for them at the dinner table is appreciated.

I am sensitive to some gluten, not all, but there are some foods I cannot eat. I am able to choose other foods easily so for the most part it doesn’t bother me too much. But many people are even more sensitive and with Thanksgiving here, I know there will be a few people at my table that do need some TLC when it come to recipes served.

So, today I thought I would share some tips for you on how to transition some of your favorite Thanksgiving and holiday recipes to gluten free alternatives easily.

Thanksgiving Gluten Free Recipe Tips

* Turkey Gravy – For me the best part about Thanksgiving is the turkey and gravy. I could live without many of the other foods so making sure that the gravy is a gluten free is on the top of my list. Making the gravy from scratch is the first part. Using a gluten free flour is the second.

Bob’s Red Mill offers a gluten free flour that is made from garbanzo bean flour, potato starch, tapioca flour and other GF ingredients. It is the easiest to find and a breeze to use in your gravy. Another option is corn starch but I don’t get the right consistency with just using that. You can also look for pre-packaged organic turkey gravy that is GF too.

* Stuffing – I have never been a stuffing fan so doing without it is no big deal to me. But I know for many people this is the best part. So to make your own GF stuffing, start with GF bread, cube it, season it, and toast it in the oven. You can also use Cornbread stuffing by making your own cornbread. The recipe on the box is great or do a recipe search! It is naturally gluten free so you would have to toast it in the oven to dry it out a bit and then prepare it your favorite way.

Another alternative is rice stuffing. I found some delicious sounding recipes online with apples and walnuts and other yummy ingredients. That could even be a tasty side dish too!

* Pumpkin Pie – Okay, this is one this I cannot do without. I love pumpkin pie and to get around the crust, I can either make the crust myself or even better just make the pie without the crust! Who even needs it when it is the filling I love so much??! HA!

* Appetizers – Like I shared in my last post Tips for Living Gluten Free there are plenty of ways to enjoy appetizers without using gluten. Foster Farms offers tasty choices that are easy to whip up as well as making your own recipes, perfect for a crowd.

I hope these healthy eating, gluten free recipe tips will help you tweak and serve your favorite foods at your Thanksgiving table. Enjoy!
