Back in June hubby and I took off for a 2 1/2 week vacation and ended up at the Jersey Shore…Wildwood to be exact. If you are new here on the TwoClassyChics blog, Hubby and I spend a LOT of time down in the Wildwood and Stone Harbor area and just love it there.
For my “Almost” Wordless Wednesday post this week I am featuring a photo that I took during that vacation. One day it was 95 degrees with terribly high humidity. It was super hot & humid outside and both animals and humans were just about dying!
Anyway, as we walked along the seawall trying to stay cool that day we came across a Snowy Egret who was also trying to stay cool. That Egret was playing in the water & jumping in/out of the water via the rocks. He did that “routine” for about 30 minutes before he eventually flew away. It was really fun to sit and watch him!
I wish I had my professional camera on me for that walk because that is one big & beautiful bird! I would of loved to have gotten better shots of him but all I had on me was my little Nikon point & shoot. Oh well, next time!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the photo!

How lovely! You did a nice job photographing the egret, although I fully understand what you mean about wishing you had your other camera (I carry my point-and-shoot in my bag and leave my DSLR at home). Great blue herons are visitors during the summer here in Maine, but I well remember seeing many egrets when I was visiting Florida. I love watching the large shorebirds. Aw heck, who am I kidding–I love watching any kind of bird!
I think it’s a great picture. It definitely makes me wish I were there! I love that type of shoreline.
Thanks for this! I’m not sure I’ve seen a Snowy Egret before – I’m not as up on birds as I used to be, especially shore birds. I used to know all of the Eastern woodland birds though, by sight and by song. I love all your photos, it’s almost as good being there!
I love to go birdwatching, especially when it comes to the shore birds! I’ve been observing them and watching them for many years. I also love to watch the inland birds too! We have a lot of Downy Woodpeckers, Cardinals, Robins, Blue Jays, House Finch, Sparrows, etc. that live on our property. I love to sit out on my deck and watch them & listen to them sing!
Beautiful pic. We have herons close by and It is amazing how they can be so still, I hardly even notice them Nice that you got to watch going in and out of the water but must have been tough to hang out on such a hot day.
I think the photo is lovely as it is. I love pictures of birds and water.
I think it is a great photo. Mine aren’t always in focus! We finally got a reprieve on the weather and some rain yesterday, but never worry because the higher temps are supposed to be right back in a few days. At least Halloween weekend was nippy and truly felt like fall weather.
It would have been a lot of,fun to see the egret jumping in and out of,the water. You can’t tell in the photo that the day was so hot and humid.
It looks gorgeous and peaceful! I hope to visit there one day.
I would also love to have the 41-2097 134 Lumen Headlight Spot Beam!
Beautiful photo! And what a beautiful bird, we do not have egrets here in Colorado.
