My husband and I love to travel and when we do so…we prefer to travel by car so that we can check out all of those obscure places that most people normally miss.
We are lucky that we live in the northeast and there is plenty for us to see. On one recent road trip through Pennsylvania we stopped in at the Roadside America – The world’s greatest indoor miniature village. It’s located Shartlesville Pennsylvania.
Once you pay your admission and get inside the building you’ll be amazed at all of the miniature villages that they have set up on display. There are HUNDREDS of little buildings, roads, train tracks & depots, vehicles, people and more! Everything is in miniature scale but looks very realistic!
This place is fantastic and makes for a very affordable and family-friendly activity. Admission ranges from $3.75 to $6.75 per person and they are open year-round…although their hours of operation do vary.
We went for a visit as a family and really enjoyed it. I loved seeing how local towns looked many years ago. Some of these villages have been beautifully and accurately re-created. Very interesting and a great learning & history lesson to go along with it.
Do you and your family enjoy visiting the less “obscure” tourist attractions? Have you ever visited Roadside America Miniature Indoor Village before?

I Have never heard of Roadside America, but I know that we would enjoy seeing all the miniature villages, etc. It would be both interesting and informative. The admission price is also reasonable.
I love these types of places but I haven’t been to this one. I love stopping at places like this when we go on vacation, probably because my Dad would never stop anywhere when I was a kid, lol.
How cool is this?! My kids would love to see this! I’ll have to mark this for the next time we are traveling up North! Awesome find!
I had no idea that there were places like this out there to go visit. I think the whole family would enjoy a visit to this it looks like a lot of fun. I also think that the admission price is fair. Thanks for sharing this one I will keep it in mind the next time we are in the area.
Oh wow! This is really nice! This would be so fun to go see with my family.
I’m with you on driving and stopping by all the out of the way places. They are usually what make the vacation…you get much more of a feel for a place when you don’t go to all the obvious tourist traps. I’ve had some of the best meals from places local people have recommended instead of going to places advertised in tourist or hotel brochures. This miniature place looks like a great afternoon….
Every time I read your PA posts, I wonder why living in Ohio, we didn’t visit that state more often. We were nearer the state border of Indiana, so guess it seemed so far away! I would love to visit Roadside America on a road trip from the Midwest, especially the train displays.
