5 Affordable Holiday Gift Ideas for Kids!

Win or Lose I Love You Book

1. Win or Lose I Love You! Book is a hardcover edition by author Lysa Terkeurst. This is a juvenile fiction book that teaches kids about winning and losing at competitions.

Title: Win or Lose I Love You!
Author: Lysa Terkeurst
ISBN: 978-0-529-10400-7

Synopsis: Competition can bring out the worst in us, but it can also be an opportunity to learn impactful life lessons. That’s why it’s so important for kids to understand how to handle winning and losing! Join Lulu and Max as they help Bear-Bear, Goosey, Coyote and the rest of their animal friends in the Filed Day contests to determine who will be the leader of Lulu’s forest. But…as the animals soon find out, not everyone can win. Sore losers, unkind winners, flaring tempers, and a few tears are taking the fun straight out of Field Day! My little 6 1/2 year old grand daughter loves reading this book!Swirling Magic Spinning Top

2. The Swirling Magic Spinning Top by HABA was made in Germany and is for children ages 3 and up (due to the small parts). A spinning top is a classic toy that all children should have! This particular spinning top is really easy to operate and fun to play with. First…wind up the cord, then pull out vigorously and the spinning top will swirl swiftly away. It’s a nifty toy to help teach children fine motor skills and eye-to-hand coordination.  One of the things I love about this spinning top is that it’s made out of beech wood and not flimsy plastic or metal that rusts. It’s a really nice spinning top and my grand daughter has been playing with it several times since I’ve received it for this feature.

SoapSox Family

3. The SoapSox is a fun 2-in-1 product that is a fun & lovable wash cloth for kids that doubles as soap dispenser. Just place a bar of soap in the mouth (there is a soap pocket in there) of the animal and it turns into a sudsy wash cloth! The SoapSox is available in several different fun animal designs and is for children ages 0+. We received “Tank” who is a great white shark and 100% adorable! He’s super soft and perfectly sized for little hands. My little grandson is 7 weeks old and I know when he gets a little bit older…he is going to love his SoapSox! I would love to see this line expanded even more with additional characters. Fun!!!

The Central Park Tales Children's Book

4. The Central Park Tales is a hardcover children’s book written and illustrated by Marcus Meesters. It’s a wonderful book containing 10 short stories with a total of 87 pages. This book is also available as an e-book.

Title: The Central Park Tales
Author: Marcus Meesters
ISBN: 978-1-63192-907-6

Synopsis: Mother dog gives a tea party and it all goes terribly wrong when some unexpected visitors come barking at her door. Her children, Doctor  Beggar and Mister Pup, help a shy dog out of the water and dig up a secret pirate treasure. Little Mousekin meets the mythical moth from her father’s bedtime story and is taught how to be a real ballerina. Frog is tricked by three mean crows, but is saved by the mysterious Swamp Witch, who shows him that he is really a prince. All this and more happens in “The Central Park Tales”, an instant classic that will enchant readers of all ages. My grand daughter is 6 1/2 years old and this book with it’s 10 short stories really has captured her attention. The book has 60 beautiful illustrations depicting real places throughout the park.

My Dream For You is Happiness Book

5. My Dream for You is Happiness is a hardcover children’s book published by Hamer House Books and illustrated by Joanne Raptis.

Title: My Dream for You is Happiness
Author: Carole Ann Hausman
ISBN: 978-0-9863906-0-9

I believe children need a wide variety of different books in their library and this particular one would make a fine addition. The hardcover book is a little over-sized and I love that! The entire story is about the things that make a child happy and about the things that a child doesn’t need to be happy. At the very beginning of the book is a quote from John Lennon which I think all parents will appreciate when they read it. I love how this little story tells kids that they don’t need a lot of toys to be happy and about all of the little things in their lives that can bring happiness and joy. It’s beautifully written and illustrated. I’ve been reading it twice a week to my 6 1/2 year old grand daughter and looking forward to reading it to my grandson once he gets a little bit older. It’s a beautiful book!

Comments

  1. I’m always looking for good books to give as gifts for my best friend’s grandkids. I also get coloring books and crayons at the dollar store.

  2. This is a great post thank you for this one. I really like to find out about affordable gifts. Some of the toys these days are way too expensive and it is crazy. These books look super cute and would make a great gift for any child.

  3. Sherry Compton says

We believe in books for kids. We often give to kids at Christmas and make sure each one has a book. Both the Win or Lose and the My Dream for you sound like cute books and important lessons.

  4. I love the little SoapSox and great that you can get them in a 2 or 3 pack, as well as single. SpongeBob would make a good SoapSox right?! I won a few children’s books and now am really into the children’s lit, as it has really expanded over the years. Still love the hardcover kid’s books that you can touch and turn the pages.

I have never heard of any of these toys or books before your review and I like all of them. I am sure that my baby grandsons will appreciate them too when they’re a little older.
