The Single Undead Moms Club by Molly Harper Book Review
I was introduced to the writings by Molly Harper here on this blog several years ago. When I first learned that most of her stories involved vampires and werewolfs, I was a bit skeptical about reading them. But I have completely changed my mind the more books of hers I have read. They are witty and fun and written in a tongue in cheek style to be enjoyed.
Coming up at the end of the month is a new release from Ms. Harper that was a great read that had me wanting more! Check out the upcoming book I reviewed:
The Single Undead Moms Club by Molly Harper
Series: Half-Moon Hollow Series (Book 6)
Publisher: Pocket Books (October 27, 2015)
ISBN-13: 978-1476794396
Widow Libby Stratton arranged to be turned into a vampire after she was diagnosed with late-stage cancer. It wasn’t the best idea she’s ever had, but she was desperate — she’s not about to leave her seven-year-old son to be raised by her rigid, overbearing in-laws.
On top of post-turning transition issues, like being ignored at PTA meetings and other mothers rejecting her son’s invitations for sleepovers, Libby must deal with her father-in-law’s attempts to declare her an unfit mother, her growing feelings for Wade — a tattooed redneck single dad she met while hiding in a closet at Back to School Night — and the return of her sire, who hasn’t stopped thinking about brave, snarky Libby since he turned her.
With the help of her new vampire circle, Libby negotiates this unfamiliar quagmire of legal troubles, parental duties, relationships, and, as always in Harper’s distinct, comedic novels, “characters you can’t help but fall in love with” (RT Book Reviews).

My Thoughts: I love it when an author has a great sense of humor and it shows through in their writing. Trying to be funny is one thing, but when an author can write with a style and flair that allows the characters to have a good time and be witty, it makes the read that much more enjoyable.
Molly Harper is a master at creating likable characters that you just want to get to know. In this book, you get to meet the folks from Half-Moon Hollow as this is actually Book 6 in a series. It was my first book in this series, but I did not feel like anything was missing as it is a complete stand alone read.
The folks in Half-Moon Hollow are used to vampires, to a degree and you get to know some of the town’s residents. I fell in love with Wade, who is the perfect guy to help Libby with her trials and tribulations. He is a strong and likeable guy who is a single parent himself. I love how his family melds together with Libby and her son. A perfect combo.
Libby is a tough cookie on her own and learning her way through the changes in her life brought on by suddenly becoming a vampire. So many parts of this book are amusing and Libby has a dry and sarcastic sense of humor that I love. I did think that the ending felt a bit rushed and I was really looking for more closure between Libby and Wade. But maybe that will come in future books.
Over all, the books by Molly Harper are a quirky series that I never thought I would enjoy. But it goes to show that if you expand your horizons a bit, you are going to find new authors and more great books to read that you may have missed out on otherwise.
