Neely’s Barbecue Sauce Recipe

October 1, 2015 by Classystaff

I am not a huge fan of sauces for the most part, but there are some that I do enjoy. I have been trying to make more foods at home to get rid of as many preservatives as possible so when I needed a BBQ sauce for my game day party the other day, I went hunting for an easy to prepare sauce that I could use for any purpose. What I found was this BBQ Sauce recipe by the Neely’s from The Food Network. What I liked about this recipe is that there is no weird ingredients in it. I already had everything at home!

Neely's Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Tasty Barbecue Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

2 cups ketchup
1 cup water
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
5 tablespoons light brown sugar
5 tablespoons sugar
1/2 tablespoon fresh ground black pepper
1/2 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 tablespoon ground mustard
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Directions: In a medium sauce pan, whisk together all ingredients. Bring to a boil and then allow to simmer for an hour and 15 minutes. Refrigerate before use. Use for a dipping sauce or on your favorite meats. Makes about 3 cups. Good for 7 days in the fridge in a sealed jar.

This came together so easy! The flavor was right on. A little bit of vinegar. A bit of sweetness and all around a tasty sauce! Give it a try!

I love the idea of a homemade barbecue sauce over bottled. We love all different varieties so I bet we could play around with this recipe depending if we want tangy, smoky, etc. I would try this in the slow cooker!

You’re right about the ingredients–I’ve got everything right in my kitchen right now. Barbecue sauce is something I’ve only recently come to like, and I like the idea of making my own from common ingredients. Thanks for sharing!

That looks like a great recipe. I make several different barbecue sauces and they all have in common that touch of lemon juice & cider vinegar that you have, it’s essential!

I love apple cider vinegar in anything and think it makes the sauce. I couldn’t resist adding some hot spices and liquid smoke, which I love. I like mine low sugar too or use stevia.

I am a fan of a good sauce, a good sauce can take an average dish and elevate it. This barbecue sauce sounds great, I can’t wait to give it a try. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

That would be tasty. Too many prepared BBQ sauces have questionable ingredients.

Lemon juice and ground mustard…that’s different for me. Sounds like great additions. My son and I were recently talking about barbecue sauce recipes. I will have to pass this on. Do you think it would work simmering in the crock pot?

I think it would be good in a slow cooker. I let it simmer for about 1 hour and a half.
