Memorable Family Heirlooms

October 15, 2015 by Classystaff

One of the best things about family is creating great memories. I do not think I know anyone that does not have some wonderful memories of some sort about growing up. Memories about favorite foods or smells from Mom’s cooking. Or the holiday traditions your family enjoyed. Maybe special memories about your siblings and the things you got away with when you were younger.

A lot of my most memorable thoughts are from my Grandmothers house. We spent a lot of time there every weekend and all summer long growing up. From the cool sleeping porch we fought to use to the activities and long walks around the lake, we were always busy and there was always a lot of family around.

Memorable Family Heirlooms

Keeping memories like those alive is easy when we have heirlooms that belong to that special someone in the family. I was so lucky to be able to go through my grandmother’s belongings and choose what I wanted from her. I have many of her old dishes, bowls, and kitchen items. But a few of my favorite pieces hang on my wall.

These pictures hung for years in her home and they remind me so much of her. The two smaller ones depict old fashioned European homes and I love being able to display them. One day my parents were visiting and we were sitting at the table eating and all of a sudden my Dad said that those pictures looked so familiar. My Mom and I laughed and told him that they hung for years in his Mother’s home. Funny how things look different in another space.

I have been blessed with many heirlooms from my Grandmother and also my Mom. Plus my Mother-in-law who recently passed away gave me some of her treasured pieces. It is comforting to use them and enjoy them for a wonderful memory that lasts forever.

Do you have any family heirlooms that you treasure? Share a few of your favorites.

I have a few things (photos and paintings) from my parents and mother-in-law and they remind us of wonderful times we spent together with family members.
