The days of plain old pumpkins seem to be changing. Of course, the stores and fun displays are loaded with pumpkins but now we have so many more choices and I, for one, am loving all of those cool new heirlooms pumpkins that I am seeing.
I took a trip the the local pumpkin patch the other day and I was so surprised at all of the awesome new varieties of pumpkins that were there. Maybe I have been missing these over the years, I don’t know, but I was so excited to see these cool varieties that can be easily added to any indoor or outdoor home decor project.
I love this display on the haystacks and this can be easily done at home. Plus, all of the awesome mini gourds are super fun too! They had at least eight different types of gourds to add to a display. Plus by visiting the local pumpkin patch, you may find they have great pricing too, just like mine did.
It had been years since I visited a pumpkin patch due to the age of my son, but I found out that visiting one sure made my day. A fun place to visit with activities for the kids and adults too! Plus all of the gorgeous surroundings made it a great visit.
Have you seen these awesome heirloom pumpkins around your home? Have you used them in your fall decor?

Great pictures of some fun and unusual gourds! I’ve always loved the different types of gourds that show up at this time of year, but as the years go by, I find I do less and less decorating, and my budget for decorative items is pretty small, so I’ve been admiring them from a distance.
We don’t generally decorate for Halloween, but looking at the pictures of all those pumpkins has made me change my mind! While I can’t easily get to a pumpkin patch, I will check the local markets for these heirloom varieties. I’d like to check them all out. Maybe I can carve them and put them on the terrace. (They would go real nice with Indian corn, too, wouldn’t they?). I guess that would be more of a Thanksgiving decoration than for Halloween.
I have always loved the herloom variaties. I am glad to see them making a comeback. The heirlooms are much older varieties than the old orange stand by.
I volunteered at the Denver Botanic Gardens Pumpkin festival and had fun going through all the acres of pumpkins. I ended up with an orange pumpkin with green warts. It’s very neat.
Who knew there were so many different types of gourds? It would be a nice departure to decorate with some colors other than orange. Thank you for sharing this post.
I like regular pumpkins for carving, but prefer a mixture of all different types, sizes and colors for decoration. These didn’t exist or were very hard to find when I was a child.
I was just noticing today all the different varieties. Even Walmart had several types. Shapes and sizes, colors, and types. I know teal is going to be seen a lot too meaning allergy free treats available. All the differences make for some great displays.
I love the look of these pumpkins. I really enjoy decorating this time of year and these pumpkins have some great colors. I like getting our pumpkins from local farmers so we support the local economy.
Just saw some of the new varieties in the store this year. I like the idea of stacking them up and making a yard display. Seems like a good way to decorate for Halloween and for the fall season. I agree though that I like having some of the regular ones for the grandkids to carve.
I haven’t seen many of these varieties but I do love the awesome carvings on the regular pumpkins, I found some stencils to use on pumpkins but I’m not that skilled at carving great designs on them like some I’ve seen.
I like these too and picked up a few 2 weeks ago. I have them on my one porch with some indian corn and a hay bale. I like regular pumpkins too but these are so much more interesting and come in some fab colors.
