Spice Up Your Fruits and Veggies With Tajin Seasoning

As a mom, I know the struggles to get the kids to eat more fruits and veggies. I lived it and still see it today when I watch my son eat, or rather not eat, the healthier choices. We can only do what we can once they become adults!

Some moms take to hiding the good stuff into sauces or baked goods. I never did that. I figured he had to learn to like the foods as they were. Maybe not such a great way to look at it. But I am one to add seasonings to enhance and change up some flavors in my dishes.

Living in California, we get a lot of the Mexican influence in our culture and foods. The stores include a lot of products from Mexico that have become a favorite; seasonings are especially popular. One of those is called Tajin® and I got a chance to give it a try.

Tajin is a Mexican seasoning that goes great with fruits and vegetables. Based on a Mexican old age tradition of seasoning fruits and vegetables with mild chili peppers, lime and salt, Tajin® it’s a very versatile seasoning can can be used to enhance the flavor of fruits, vegetables, drinks or any food.

I love fresh fruits and pineapple is one of my favorites. So sweet and delicious, I thought this would be the perfect thing to try this seasoning on. I have only ever used seasonings on veggies or meat so this was going to be something new for me!

The product comes in a open spout bottle offering a generous 5 ounces of product. It is made only of chili peppers, sea salt and dehydrated lime juice with no other flavors added. I was expecting it to be spicy but honestly the first taste that came to my mouth is the lime. A nice tang and the chili is sooooo mild. Not spicy for my palate.

I poured out a bit so I could dip my pineapple in and it was a refreshing treat. I can see why this is a fruit and veggie enhancer! That lime flavor mixed with the pineapple with a hint of chili and salt. It was really good! I can see using this flavor combination is many dishes, like chicken, Bloody Mary’s, on a Margarita glass, in Guacamole and more!

The other day I shared a delicious Cucumber Salsa recipe from the Tajin website that looks wonderful. They have many other recipes you can try there too!

Look for Tajin in the Mexican section of your grocery store and give it a try. Sprinkle some on your fruits and veggies for a change of pace and entice your kids to eat more of the healthy stuff!
