It has taken a long time to figure out what works for me and my body when it comes to healthy eating and lifestyle changes. As we grow older, your body does not want to let go of the bad. I think remembers the lazy muscles and bad eating habits. Temptation is all around us and it really takes a mindset change to make a difference.
I have been making strides on my weight-loss journey and active lifestyle changes. By making it a priority in my life, that has fueled some of the changes I have been seeing in my body and mind. I feel better and I am working hard at making changes for me.
Here are some things I have added that have been helping me.
* Juicing on a daily basis – I never got in as many greens as I needed and by adding juicing to my life, I really could feel the difference. I lost some weight initially but it also fueled the desire to make better food choices.
* Eating Low Carb – My body has not loved certain carbs for along time. By cutting our many carbs, I have felt better. Gone is the bloating and yucky feeling I used to get from eating breads and such. I do eat come carbs, but they mostly come from veggies or a potato now and then.
* Adding Cardio – I was definitely not getting enough exercise, to say the least. I needed more and I have to add some cardio through walking or swimming when I am able. I try and get in some type of cardio at least 4 days a week for 30-60 minutes, depending on my time availability.
* Weight Lifting – I enjoy lifting weights and it does improve your muscles as well has help to burn fat. That in my book is a huge plus! I try and get in a workout at least 3 days a week, time permitting.
These 4 things have added up to some nice changes for me but everyone is different. Making healthy and safe changes is important. I have done all of the crash diets and junk like that and they just made the problem worse. Now I am in more control that I ever have been.

I workout daily, cardio and weight lifting are very important. Cutting down on carbs is definitely the hardest. Thank you for sharing these tips.
Eating low carb is the hardest for me even though I know that I feel better when I substitute vegetables and fruits for the carbs. I find that I can do it most days but then there are those days that I just have to give in to my craving for bread or pasta.
What has worked for me is upping the protein and cutting bback on breaads . I am a caarrb addict too- I love breads and such but they dont love me so much!
I also try and get outside everyday for at least 30 minutes or more be it walking, gardening, or working on the ward. Sunshine always helps your mood and outlook on life. I think it is important to be happy in both mond and body.
It sounds like you’ve found a plan that works. I’ve considered trying low-carb since I’m diabetic, too, in addition to being overweight.
Eating low carb is a must for me too. I know everyone is different but it works best for me. I go more for the veggies than fruit since they have less carbs and upset my stomach less. I do yoga for my back every day and it helps my whole body just be more flexible and I’m sure helps my digestion.
I need to do more exercise use such as walking more. I try to make sure to eat a healthy breakfast and not eat late in the day or snack after dinner. It is much harder to urn calories as we get older.
I really need to work harder at it all. I try to avoid sweets and to walk when I can. We live out in the country on a winding mountain road so walking is a good way to get run over and when I go places I drive. (I am also good at making excuses!) I hope to be more inspired as the days get a bit cooler.
I swim 3 times a week. My joints are not in good condition to do weight training because of my RA.
These are some great tips and ones that I will try to follow. I am trying to lose weight and it sure is harder than it used to be.
I do as much walking as I can (which isn’t that hard, considering I don’t have a car). I used to be able to do a lot more than I do now – weight-training, swimming, yoga, etc. But things change…..it’s getting harder to do what I need to in order to stay in shape. I’d love to start juicing, especially with one of those “slow” juicers that they say preserves all the good enzymes, etc. Wish me luck!
