Dark Wild Night by Christina Lauren Book Review
When you become a fan of a certain writing style or author, the anticipation revolving around a new release becomes a tough waiting game. Especially when you are waiting the release of a book in a series. For me, waiting for this book to come, felt like forever! But once it got here for review, I devoured it in one day! *Sigh*
Dark Wild Night by Christina Lauren
Series: Wild Seasons (Book 3)
Publisher: Gallery Books (September 15, 2015)
ISBN-13: 978-1476777948
What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
But what didn’t happen in Vegas seems to follow them everywhere.
Lola and Oliver like to congratulate themselves on having the good sense to not consummate their drunken Las Vegas wedding. If they’d doubled-down on that mistake, their “Just Friends” situation might not be half as great as it is now.
. . . Or so goes the official line.
In reality, Lola’s wanted Oliver since day one–and over time has only fallen harder for his sexy Aussie accent and easygoing ability to take her as she comes. More at home in her studio than in baring herself to people, Lola’s instinctive comfort around Oliver nearly seems too good to be true. So why ruin a good thing?
Even as geek girls fawn over him, Oliver can’t get his mind off what he didn’t do with Lola when he had the chance. He knows what he wants with her now . . . and it’s far outside the friend zone. When Lola’s graphic novel starts getting national acclaim–and is then fast-tracked for a major motion picture–Oliver steps up to be there for her whenever she needs him. After all, she’s not the kind of girl who likes all that attention, but maybe she’s the kind who’ll eventually like him.
Sometimes seeing what’s right in front of us takes a great leap of faith. And sometimes a dark wild night in Vegas isn’t just the end of a day, but the beginning of a bright new life . . .
My Thoughts: I have been a fan of this writing duo since the beginning of their writing career together. I have read almost every book they have put out. This team writes like no other author and their contemporary women’s fiction is smoking hot in the marketplace due to their unique style, in depth series, and overall talent.
This book is part 3 in a series and I had to really look back to the other books in order to prepare myself for this book. I wanted to be refreshed and ready to consume. But I really did not have to worry as the authors included plenty of history to remind you of the past stories. I think if you read this as a stand alone, you would not be overly lost either.
For me, this book is so different from the others this team has published. Oliver and Lola are very special. Their relationship is so different from the others – best friends that were married for a minute! Funny and yet so sweet. There are deep feelings there that neither know how to deal with. Everyone sees it, but how do you tip toe through the landmine without destroying your friendship too?
This story is touching and heartbreaking; uncomfortable and heartwarming; humorous and quirky – all wrapped up together. It is easy to get lost in the writing style of Christina Lauren and I got so involved in this story, I just could not put it down. Oliver is so sweet and the fact that he and Lola are so perfect for each other came to life in this story. I do not think that this author could have crafted this story any other way.
The characters are flawed yet they overcome and figure it out without a ton of drama but with a lot of romance and depth of feelings. That is what I love about these stories. The perfect balance of guy and gal, the openness in feelings, and the love for their friends and others.
Dark Wild Night is a fabulous read. I know that this had to be a tough book to write because the how different these two characters are, but I think they nailed this story perfectly! This book is definitely one to grab!
