I am a Midwest girl by birth. I grew up in Minnesota around my Dad’s family. Every weekend we would travel about an hour to spend the weekend with my Grandmother on the lake where she owned a resort. We would help out with the cabins and customers. Often my siblings and I would dig worms, catch minnows and frogs and sell them to the fisherman that would rent boats for the amazing fishing. It was awesome growing up there. I have so many memories.
The great part about this story is that this is still my family home. My Mom and Dad retired to that property as did my Uncle and Aunt. While I do not get back there as often as I wish, every time I do, a piece of me just relaxes all the stress away. I crave The Lake. That is what we call it and that is what I am sharing with you today.
This a typical sunset at The Lake. Taken from the dock, just seeing this makes me smile and homesick as heck! Enjoy!

That’s a lovely picture and I want to go sit on the bench on that dock.
That’s a beautiful photo. I grew up near Lake Cumberland, in Southern KY. I haven’t seen it in a while, but it was always nice to be there.
What a wonderful photo and what a blessing that you get to go back and visit. Memories of good times and family are so important to hold on in the stress that can become our lives.
How beautiful! There is just something so peaceful and unreal about camping and watching the sunrise over the lake. You hear the water lapping and the bugs, but things seem at peace. We used to go camping every year down in Arkansas, a wonderful lake down there. I miss it, but the photo reminds me of those amazing family times.
That is a beautiful place. We all get a bit homesick as time passes.
That is a beautiful picture. My family didn’t own a place at the lake but during the summers we visited one many weekends. It was always so relaxing and fun for everyone.
So beautiful! What a view – I’d love to have a place to go to relax and regroup, like that. I grew up and live in NYC, and there’s never a view like, no vast expanses of water and sky, unless you go to the beach, which is always very crowded. I think it’s wonderful that you have those memories of catching frogs, etc, with your cousins. I have memories of my cousins and I playing stickball in the middle of the street, and riding on the subway.
What a lovely picture thanks for sharing. It sounds like you had so much fun growing up here as a child. I love the water so much something about it just relaxes me everything calms down and makes sense.
I grew up in the Midwest too and also visited my grandma (dad’s mom) at the lake. In her retirement she had an RV that was parked at the lake and I can remember her teaching me how to clean the fish and fry them up in beer batter. Good times.
