I am fortunate to live just a few miles from a large air museum here in California. Home to over 60 restored vintage military aircraft, Castle Air Museum is a great place to stop on your travels through the Central Valley. Run by mainly by volunteers, the museum boasts amazing historic aircraft from helicopters to Air Force One that I featured last year.
This past weekend was open cockpit day and people come out in droves to view the interiors of the plane. My husband and I stopped by for a while to visit with some friends that volunteer there and to see the planes. I am amazed at how stripped down these aircraft really are. Definitely not built for comfort! LOL
Here is a shot of 3 awesome aircraft used in the Korean and Vietnam War and other conflicts in history between the 1950-70’s. So much dedication and work goes into acquiring and maintaining the aircraft. It is a fun place to visit for all ages.

Love this! Happy to read Deb E’s post that she also loves WWII aircraft, too, and is also a fan of 12 O’Clock High! I really am into the B-17s, the P-51s, and the P-38s. I had a bout a million models hanging from my ceiling when I was a kid! (You HAVE to check out the Air & Space Museum at the Smithsonian if you get to Washington DC!!)
Very cool! As a kid, I got to go to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base Museum in Dayton, OH. It was great! They had an Apollo space capsule, The Spirit of St. Louis, etc.
My sons would love, this aircraft museum. I would be curious about how the aircraft changed throughout the years and the size of the cockpits.
I would like to check this place out I love looking at stuff like this and I think the whole family would have fun here thanks for sharing.
no way! hahaha i was genuinely surprised to read that you were there. i live 5 mins from here so when i read castle AFB i was like yay a local that i follow hahaha
met my bf there during open cockpit day 7yrs ago on the 20th of this month. so the base has a special place in my heart
How cool is that!!
Fascinating! It is wonderful that there is a final resting place for these things and people can get up close and personal with military tools we only remember from the news way back when.
I saw some neat planes at the Air & Space museum in Washington, D.C.
I love the war airplanes, especially WW2 and hope I get up North to see this museum. I caught a few episodes of 12 o’clock High over the Labor Day Weekend and enjoyed them.
Open cockpit would be amazing to see. My son just got his pilot license, and they go to the airshows in Florida, but I know he would love this. The history and craftsmanship is amazing!
