Spot Workouts That Target Your Problem Areas
I have been hinting a bit at the change in my lifestyle over the past few months, but the truth is I have been working super hard! Each day I put in at least 1.5 to 2 hours or more working out. I am seeing such great results, it is energizing. I am down 45 pounds and about 2 sizes. I have a long way to go, but I am motivated, most days, anyway!
With that said, I enjoy using DVD’s to help target problem areas and workout in times I cannot do my other routines. This new release DVD from Patrica Friberg has been a blessing. I was excited to be able to review it and get some help in areas my body needs.
Bottom Line & A Core Defined with Patricia Friberg is a Pilates and Strength based workout. This step-wise program will help you learn to activate the core including the gluteal and abdominals muscles. Then the workout advances to provide the necessary challenges for a strong core and lifted bottom. This program will improve your posture and overall athletic performance. The DVD is broken down into 3 segments Bottom Activation 1, Bottom Activation 2, and A Core Defined.
One of my biggest problems is lower back pain due to multiple auto accidents and way too much sitting over the years. It has been weak and painful. This was causing pain in my hip flexors and my glutes. With strength training and weight lifting over the past few months, I have improved it a lot, but it still needs a lot of work. This DVD focuses on the muscles in your bottom that support your back, hips and legs, as well as your abs too. Just what I need!
The Program:
Patricia starts off with an intro to how these muscles work in your body and why this DVD focuses on this problem area. We also hear from a physical therapist about the importance of strengthening your core and the muscle groups located there, like your abs and gluteal muscles. Whether you are a professional athlete or a weekend warrior, injuries happen when muscles are weak and overtaxed. This is a great DVD to help improve your supporting muscles.
In the workout phase, we start with the form. I love that Patrica takes the time to separate this into its own section. It is so important as form will make all of the difference in this workout. You can refer back to it time and again to make sure your form is right on.
Bottom Activation 1 is building endurance. A loop band is used, but you can do it without the band, like I do right now as I am a beginner in this. The program does use a lot of floor exercises, which can be difficult for some. I do love that she thoroughly explains every single move and what you should be feeling and doing. She finishes with a nice stretch out too. It runs about 18 minutes.
Bottom Activation 2 is done in the standing position and this done after you work the Bottom Activation 1. This also uses a loop band, but it is not required. This includes a variety of moves standing and a few using the floor. She also finishes up with a nice stretch. This segment runs about 14 minutes.
A Core Defined works abominals and the glutes. It uses a small fitness ball, loop band, and a soft surface for floor work. There is someone doing modified variations of each move, without tools and advanced moves. This is an advanced workout! It runs about 31 minutes and it is filled with amazing moves to strengthen and work those abs and your core.
My Overall Thoughts:
I enjoyed many moves in this DVD. I love the fluid movements and the holds that really pushes your endurance. There are some tough moves on the floor work for me with my back issues, but that is what I need to work through as well to improve it in the long run. I did what I could and listened to my body! This is important in training your muscles.
This is a great workout and perfect for intermediate to advanced fitness levels.
