Kid’s Craft Project DIY Soda Bottle Bird Feeders

August 10, 2015 by Shelly

DIY Soda Bottle Bird FeederAre the kids starting to get bored? Are they driving you nuts and looking for some things to do? If that is the case…I got a quick and easy kid’s craft project for all of you today.

For the past 2 months I have been babysitting my 6 year old grand daughter two days a week. Since I don’t believe in plopping kids down in front of a TV all day long…I’ve been keeping her busy with some creative arts and crafts projects. On top of that, I’ve thrown in some educational things too…so that her mind stays sharp for the upcoming school year.

A few weeks ago we sat down and whipped up some of these quick & easy DIY Soda Bottle Bird Feeders and today, I thought I would share that project with all of you.

DIY Soda Bottle Bird Feeder

2 liter empty & clean soda bottle
scissors
tacky glue
sequins, beads, buttons, stickers, etc.
paint markers
24″ long Jute rope or old clothesline
hole punch
wild bird seed

You can let your kids decorate the outside of the feeder with whatever craft supplies you have. We used some of the items listed above and when we ran out, my grand daughter simply used some paint markers and drew designs on them.

You want to cut off the bottom 1/3 of the plastic soda bottle and use a hole punch to punch two holes into the side. You will thread jute or old clothesline through the holes, knot at each end and use it to hang up the bird feeder.

Once they are decorated and completely dry (if you glued on embellishments) you want to fill them up with wild birdseed.  We hung some of ours onto tree branches and a few others off plant hooks on my patio. The birds have loved them and every 2-3 days we refill them back up with bird seed.

Super quick, easy and simple project that the kids can do! Let them get creative when it comes to decorating their new outdoor bird feeders.

The squirrels would eat all my food. I feed humming birds this time of year.

This is a fun project to do with kids. It is easy to,do,and the kids can decorate the outside as much as they want. They could even personalize each feeder.

Love this idea! I might make one to hang closer to the chipmunk hole, so they might stay away from my main bird feeding area. Your little Princess is lucky to have you so close by, especially with all the fun things you do together.

Plastic soda bottles can be repurposed into all sorts of things, can’t they?! I found some directions for a bath tub boat for Barbie using a soda bottle and it was the cutest. This is a simple project any kid can do too.
