If you love a great crime and suspense read, then I have a new release that you are going to want to check out. This one was a surprising read that kept me up past my bedtime! Full of twists and turns, I think you will like it too!

Publisher: NAL (July 7, 2015)
ISBN-13: 978-0451474209

The breakout author of The Forgotten Girl and Cemetery Girl, “one of the brightest and best crime fiction writers of our time” (Suspense Magazine) delivers a new novel about a man who is haunted by a face from his past….

When Nick Hansen sees the young woman at the grocery store, his heart stops. She is the spitting image of his college girlfriend, Marissa Minor, who died in a campus house fire twenty years earlier. But when Nick tries to speak to her, she acts skittish and rushes off.

The next morning the police arrive at Nick’s house and show him a photo of the woman from the store. She’s been found dead, murdered in a local motel, with Nick’s name and address on a piece of paper in her pocket.

Convinced there’s a connection between the two women, Nick enlists the help of his college friend Laurel Davidson to investigate the events leading up to the night of Marissa’s death. But the young woman’s murder is only the beginning…and the truths Nick uncovers may make him wish he never doubted the lies.

My Thoughts: When you first pick up a book from an author you have never read before, sometimes you may be a bit hesitant on whether you are going to enjoy it. I was expecting one thing from the synopsis, but once I got into the story, it became so much more.

This story starts with a plot that many of us can relate to, our first loves and what could have been. But in Nick’s case, his love died tragically and he was left wondering about the past for the last 20 years. The author crafts his story around this idea and adds in plenty of mystery, twists, turns, and sleuthing to try and find out what has transpired in the past years and why Nick is a suspect in a murder!

As you are reading, ideas and half truths begin to develop. While there were some aspects to the story I figured out along the way, there are still plenty of areas where the author surprises you. There was always something happening that kept my interest and intrigue about the final outcome.

This story was well thought out and crafted for an enjoyable read. Truly a crime a passion and a great read that will hold your attention throughout! Well Done!
