The older we get the more concerned we tend to be about our bodies. Heart problems and cholesterol has always been on my radar because my Dad has a history of heart issues. My nephew had open heart surgery at 26. So needless to say, I am always trying to watch my good fats and bad fats.
I was researching some healthy fats for myself the other day and decided to share with you some of the things I learned.
5 Foods Loaded With Healthy Fats
Fish Oils – Loaded with Omega 3, fatty types of fish is heart healthy. Look for cuts from Salmon, Tuna, Trout, Mackerel for the highest properties of good cholesterol. It is still recommended to eat it at least twice a week. I choose to supplement because I am not a fish eater.
Avocados – This tree fruit is loaded with 22 grams of monounsaturated fats along with 20 essential nutrients like potassium, folic acid and fiber. Easy to add to salads, sandwiches and even on the side.
Almonds & Walnuts – All nuts are great for cholesterol but these 2 are called out in particular because of the higher levels of Omega 3 and monounsaturated fats they offer. Perfect for snacking on the go or adding to other foods.
Olives & Olive Oil – This fruit offers healthy amounts of Oleic Acid also known as Omega 9 which is known to help reduce the bad cholesterol and increase your good cholesterol, HDL. Perfect for salads and cooking, not to mention olives alone are great for snacking.
We really love the Nudo Italia Olive Oil Made with 100% Italian Olives. You can find their olive oils in a wide variety of different flavors to really tantalize your taste buds and cooking needs.
Coconut Oil – Researchers are on the fence about Coconut oil and whether it helps to reduce cholesterol or not. While it is plant based and better than any processed oils and saturated fat oils like butter, it does raise both the good cholesterol and the bad cholesterol. Personally I use it as a healthier alternative to butter and vegetable oil, but it is your call!
I hope this was informative for you. It helped me add the right types of snacks and foods into my diet. Do you have any tips and tricks you have learned about healthy fats you want to share?

I try to use more of the healthy fats, but I still prefer the taste of butter in most baked goods. I do use a little coconut oil with the butter in pie rusts, I have been experimenting with using less fat and substituting apple sauce, avocado ,etc.
I need to eat more healthy thanks for the review
Nuts especially almonds are one of my favorite snacks and I do find I cook with olive oil all the time. I wish I liked coconut oil but just don’t like the flavor.
I use coconut oil for everything now from caramelizing onions to baking cupcakes. It gives baked good a nice airy texture and does not (as I had originally suspected that it might) cause things to taste like suntan oil – at all!!
I knew about nuts, olives, fish & avocados, but I didn’t know about coconut oil. That would be an interesting thing to try.
(5 Foods Loaded With Healthy Fat) This was really interesting to read about. I eat avocados all the time on many different things. I love the taste of them.
I like fish, avocados, nuts, olives and olive oil. I have not used coconut oil yet.
I eat all of these and love avacados but here in the Midwest we dont get very good onees. I hav started using coconut oil more, but as you say the reseearch is still out although I know some swear by it.
I love avocados so much and must have them a few times per month. Great post I didn’t know that coconut oil was a good one thanks for sharing and have a great rest of the weekend it’s way too hot here today.
I’m about half way through a huge bottle of Avocado oil, and it’s keeping very well in the frig. I won some pistachio and hazelnut oil, so I had to slow down on my coconut oil (bought by the gallon) and olive oil Yes I love those oils and they do wonders for your skin, hair and eyes, I’ve noticed.
