I love to read in the summertime. Things are slower and there is nothing like relaxing while reading a great story. Plus, reading and travel go hand in hand for me! This book that is slated to come out in a week or so is just the right type of summertime read. Easy going and just right for a lazy summer day.

From New York Times bestselling author Mariah Stewart comes the latest book in her celebrated Chesapeake Diaries, a small-town romance series in the tradition of Barbara Freethy, Susan Mallery, and Robyn Carr.

Jamie Valentine is the wildly successful author of self-help books advocating transparency in every relationship. But when her widowed mother passes away unexpectedly, Jamie discovers her own life has been based on a lie. Angry and deeply betrayed, she sets out to find the truth—which may be in a small town on the Chesapeake Bay. Cutting her most recent book tour short, Jamie books a room at the Inn at Sinclair’s Point, just outside St. Dennis.

The death of Daniel Sinclair’s father forced him to take over the family inn, and his wife’s death left him a single parent of two children, so there’s little room for anything else in his life. His lovely new guest is intriguing, though, and he’s curious about the secret she’s clearly hiding. But in the end, Jamie and Dan could discover the greatest truth of all: that the search for one thing just might lead to the find of a lifetime—if you keep your heart open.

My ThoughtsThis book is apart of a series of books called the The Chesapeake Diaries. Since I had never read anything by this author before, I was pleased to find that this is a stand alone book.

The writing style is very easy going and the theme of the story is rather surprising. It actually made me a bit sad. While the strength of the female lead, Jamie, is good, I was kind of disappointed with the male lead, Dan. He started off kind of as a jerk and while he did come around, I was looking for more in terms of the attraction and depth of feelings on both of their parts. It seemed like they just accepted that they would be together and poof, they were. Plus the passion and fire in this story was a bit lacking. Had the romance part been a bit more developed, I think it would have added a lot to the overall storyline.

The rest of the storyline was interesting and overall the book was a satisfying and very enjoyable read. I enjoyed the descriptive touches of the area and the homes, plus the characters in the town were all interesting and fun to meet. Knowing that another book may come out with a spinoff from a current character, makes it all the more enjoyable.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. It was engaging and easy to read. Perfect for a summer trip or beach visit!
