It is hard to believe but we are now halfway through the month of April and I am getting “Spring Fever” even worse than before. I am just “itching” to get outside more and get my Spring and Summer gardening started. How about you?
Last year we had a total of 5 flower beds and 2 vegetable gardens here on our property. This year we are going to add one more flower bed and just have one very large backyard vegetable garden. In addition to the vegetable garden, we have an apple tree, 2 blueberry bushes and 5 raspberry bushes on our property.
We are thinking about adding 2 more blueberry bushes and 2 more raspberry bushes along with a dwarf pear tree. I am still researching the dwarf pear tree idea to see how easy that would be to grow and maintain. I wish we could grow citrus fruits here but we can’t. Hubby is considering adding a few grapevines next year.
As the Spring and Summer gardening season progresses I will share photos with all of you on how our gardens are doing along with some great gardening tips that we learn along the way.
Will you be planting a flower or vegetable garden this year? If so, what will you be growing? Do you have a green thumb? Got any tips to share with us?
I love gardening andd being outside. Its just now getting so we can plant early things. I have a small garden and this year I am focusing on tomatoes since we use tons of them and beans. I also have asparagus beds and starwberry beds.
Last year I planted a bunch of wildflowers… you know the kind you get in little packs from usually wdeddings. My Aunt passed away and she adored wid flowers, and as a tribute to her I planted a bunch never eexpecting them to come up. Thay went wild and produced an amazing amount of flowers and I saved the seeeds . I am tilling some extra space to replant them because the butterflies and bees loved them as much as we did. I am also planting some giant sunflowers.
I noticed that my raspberry bushes are already beginning to come back and flower. Can’t wait for those fresh raspberries this summer.
I love gardening! This year I’ll be tending to my perennials and have an herb garden. i had a knee replacement surgery so gardening will be more challenging!
I plan on planting flowers as soon as I can the weather here has been warm then freezing so I think I have to wait a bit longer. I love to plant a variety of flowers and then battle against the deer who love to eat anything we plant.
We moved to a new home last year and had to leave all of our fruit trees, blueberries, grapes and flowers behind but yesterday we bought an apple tree to start over here at the new place. I love to garden but we travel so much that I can’t be around to be sure things stay watered and bug free.
Here in Downeast Maine, most of the snow is gone from the lawn and fields, but nothing is growing yet. I’m keeping a sharp eye out for my chives, which is the only thing I’ve got planted in the ground here because we rent. The milkweed won’t show up for a while. I’ll probably plant some containers soon; I’m thinking of planting lettuce, cherry tomatoes, and herbs. My rosemary, thyme, and mint have overwintered inside and I’ll be moving them outside when the frost danger is past. I left the oregano outside, but it’s not showing any signs of survival yet.
Your flower and vegetable gardens sound wonderful. I only have an indoor Aerogarden. I hope you will show us photos of,your gardens and Berry bushes in bloom.
What a pretty picture, and it does make me want to have nice flowers and a garden. I don’t have access to gardening. My aunt had all this and more! She was outside in her garden all the time and so many yummy fruits and veggies and flowers!
