Quick and Easy Family Dinner Night with Gorton’s

April 1, 2015 by Carol

smart and crunchy tourHave you all heard the news? Gorton’s has a brand new line of Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks and Fillets. They’ve reinvented their iconic Fish Stick, to create the Fish Stick 2.0. The new Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks and Fillets are made from 100% Alaska Pollock and are never fried, so they have 50% less fat than Gorton’s regular breaded Fish Sticks and Fillets. And, thanks to a seasoned panko crumb, they have the same great taste and crunch you and your family have come to love from Gorton’s. All new Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks offer a mealtime solution that you can feel great about serving and your family will truly enjoy.

Recently I was sent a package from Gorton’s so that my family could try out some of the Gorton’s products. I headed to my local store and sadly, they were all sold out of the new Smart & Crunchy Fish Sticks & Fillets. Instead, I had to pick up a bag of the Gorton’s Fish Sticks & Other Dippers Beer Batter Tenders and a bag of the Gorton’s Crispy Beer Batter Shrimp.

I had planned on whipping up a recipe or two from the Gorton’s web site but then decided against that since I was feeding 3 of my grandchildren and I knew they would want their Gorton’s fish plain (and not fancy).

I read the directions on each package and baked them in my oven. Once done, the kids loaded up their plates and got busy diving in. The 2 older grandchildren made fish & cheese sandwiches using the Fish Sticks & Fillets and the younger one just enjoyed the Crispy Beer Batter Shrimp.

Since it was a beautiful day outside (finally) the kids took their plates outside & ate at my picnic table (hence, for the crappy photos thanks to the blinding sunlight that day). All three of the kids licked their plates clean and were disappointed that Grammy didn’t have any left. This is one great way to get your kids to eat more fish which is a natural source of Omega 3.

Personally, I had just a few shrimps and they were delicious. I loved the crispy breading and the shrimp themselves were juicy, flavorful and plump. They weren’t all dried out and hard at all. I was very impressed with the quality of both products and I will be purchasing both again. You can check out the full line of Gorton’s fish products and print out some delicious recipes by visiting their site online.
