Unique Birthday Cakes

March 11, 2015 by Classystaff

As you may have read, last weekend my hubby turned 50. This big milestone was marked by a nice party at our home that was attended by about 20 close friends. We had a wonderful time visiting and enjoying company. Not to mention the great food! One of the fun features and highlights of a big birthday is the cake. I made sure to have a special one that my hubby loves in order for all to enjoy.

fruit basket cake

We have a specialty bakery a few towns away that makes a fabulous cake called the Fruit Basket. It is a white cake that is filled with layers of fresh fruit like strawberries, banana, lemon curd, and whipped cream. It uses whipped cream as the frosting and then is covered with shaved white chocolate. It is heaven in your mouth! It is actually very light! So delicious!

Ice cream cake with clowns

We also had a wonderful friend bring a fun and festive ice cream cake. It was decorated with fun ice cream cone clowns and perfect for the kids. A wonderful taste treat too!

Both my hubby and son are not big cake eaters, but white and lemon are their favorite and they love ice cream too, so these hit the mark. Do you do any unique cakes for birthdays? Share with your faves.

How fun to have a separate cake for the kids–and smart, too, because that leaves that fabulous fruit-and-whipped-cream cake for the adults who will appreciate it. I wish I could contribute to the discussion of special or traditional cakes, but in that regard, I got nuttin, although I did once try to decorate a cake for my spouse’s birthday but it ended up looking like a six-year-old did it. Ha! He loved it anyway.

Those are great birthday cakes! My favorite cake would either be red velvet or chocolate with vanilla frosting.

What an adorable cake. Though you could make it yourself after a certain point I say ‘bring on the pros!’

My favorite cake was always an angell food ckke. My Mother made me one every year and I always wanted it unfrosted. I tink my faavorite part was watching it cool upside down on a pop bppttle. Later ,y husbands grandmother maade me one too every year and she used 7up. I miss those cakes but every year I find some angel food cake.

I only wish we have this kind of bakery here. For my taste cakes from the store are too heavy and too sugary. The best wishes to your husband, he was blessed with such a wife as you

Growing up my fav was a cake from the bakery that was all chocolate. I would love a white and lemon cake with whipped cream frosting and shavings of white chocolate – I guess I’ll have to make one, as I won’t be able to get to your bakery. The kids’ cake is so cute!

These cakes both look delicious. my family ‘s favorite is usually with dark chocolate, but they like other types too such as fruit or lemon. I love ice cream cakes more that they do.
