Where I live we have a lot of families from the Azores that live in this area. While they are considered Portuguese, they are not the Portugal line. Be that as it may, the foods are amazing. One of my husbands close friends is from the Azores and his mother is very traditional, making amazing delicacy’s that make your mouth water.
One of the most amazing things she makes is a Portuguese Puff Pastry called Flauge (spelled phonically as I cannot find the right way to spell it). Anyway, it is layers of puff pastry that includes a whisper thin layer of creamy cheese. It is baked and then covered with powdered sugar. OMG! You can only imagine the taste.
She spoiled my hubby with a huge platter of these amazing pastries and I have been hard pressed to not eat them all. I allowed myself two. They are awesome!

Ahhh, my mouth is watering just imagining these pastries. It reminds me of a dessert I had a very long time ago at an upscale French restaurant, with layers and layers of lovely pastry with cream between the layers and fresh strawberries on top. I’ve never forgotten it, and I’ve never seen anything like it again. Until now!
I had the pleasure of sampling one of these pastries a few years ago. Fabulous.
I’m drooling just looking at the photos! I think I’ll be spending time on Pinterest today looking for this recipe, lol.
I have made puff pastry but never this Portuguese version. I hope you shall be displaying the recipe for these delicacies because I would love to try making this pastry.
Ding ~ you need to get the recipe for all of us. I would love to try to make that!!!
Looks like one of those cronuts, but I’ve never had the pleasure, so I’m sure they are both lovely to eat. My aunt married a Greek man and I was fortunate to taste a bit of their culture as their kids grew up and I attended their parties.
ahhhh the layers and the cream cheese!!! 🙂
You had me at the words puff pastry and cream cheese. They look like someting tat somehow a doxen would disappear in a day and you would wonder how you ate that many. I love the older traditional recipes and this looks great.
