Kid’s Xlear Natural Saline Nasal Spray
Being a mom with school age children can be frustrating during cold and flu season. Colds and flu also lead to inner ear infections and can mean many trips to the emergency room or doctors office costing us parents an arm and a leg! It is March, so spring is in the air, which means those pesty allergies are waking up! Timing could not be more perfect to do this review because my 10 year old daughter, Sophia, is battling a nasty cold at the moment.
I was pleased to see the natural ingredients, which are purified water, xylitol, saline, and grapefruit seed extract (used as a preservative). The ingredient xylitol is a “tooth friendly” non fermentable sugar alcohol. Xylitol also inhibits the growth of strep and influenza. Nasal sprays containing Xylitol have been shown to decrease the incidence of acute otitis media (inner ear infections). It is also an effective way of assisting and stimulating the nasal passages, reducing bacterial colonization and allergy pollutants. Xlear Nasal Spray moisturizes and protects delicate tissues. It is gentle enough for infants, but effective for all ages.
I read the complete instructions first. First, you have to clear the nasal passages by gently blowing the nose. For smaller children and babies parents can use a bulb syringe. Insert nozzle into nostril and squeeze. Spray 1-2 times in each nostril. For younger children and babies, lay them down with their head tilted back, tilt bottle upside down and allow drops to flow into nostril. Use as often as you feel needed, but for best results use twice daily. We first tried this on Sophia before bed time. She was very congested and was having trouble breathing through her nose. We sprayed 2 sprays in each nostril. I was pleasantly surprised how easily she took it! No burn or eyes tearing like with other nasal sprays! She also said it had a nice sweet aftertaste. She slept like a baby all night!
The next morning we did the process again, she said mom I feel better and I want to go to school today! This product is an A plus in my book, and will be a staple in our medicine cabinet from here on out!
