I have had my dog for 6 years or so and since he was adopted we really had no history of him. It has been a learn as you go process. What we found as his personality developed was that he has a lot of issues. Food and water can only be served in certain vessels. He actually eats his food from a towel on the floor. No dishes or dish noises, especially metal. Huge red flag for him! He is terrified of dishes. Water is from a plastic bowl only. He is afraid of any loud noises; even a door slamming from the wind will have him shaking for hours. Wind…. No way! He will refuse to go outdoors in any kind of wind.
So how do you deal with anxiety issues in pets like this? We have learned his triggers and adapted as much as we can but sometimes, it can be a real inconvenience. I worry about him if we leave him for the day or have someone take care of him if we are out of town for several days. Plus holidays can be a real nightmare!

There are many calming solutions for pets exist. One of the most effective methods that has come to light is a calming coat that the pets will wear. The Rein Coat® is a patent pending coat and harness combination that works by replicating a naturally-occurring behavior between animals and their offspring in a gentle and nurturing manner. The therapeutic calming coat is designed to lightly touch your pet on the nape of the neck (just like the mommy dog), triggering the production of oxytocin, commonly referred to as the “love hormone” released by the brain that reduces fear and anxiety.
Designed to provide a custom fit for all shapes and sizes of dogs and cats with its unique strapping system, The Rein Coat fits pets from 5 pounds to 250 pounds with neck sizes ranging from 6 inches to 35 inches. I got one for Louie to see how it would work for him and his issues.
Getting it on him was not issue. He is used to wearing a harness and this fits similarly. The coat lay across the back with large clips that are all adjustable. The fit was pretty good but across his chest was a tiny bit snug. He is a big chest but it worked out okay. I love the big harness area and clasps as it give great protection and control-ability. The coat is soft and warm.
So the big question is how did he like it. Well, from the pictures you can tell he was not overly amused and it took a lot of coaxing for him to get off the bed and model it for me. This was after his first wearing. I had him wear it off and on over the past week or so to get used to the coat. He is not minding it as much but he is still not quite sure. He likes it a lot more when a leash is attached as that means he is going out. But, like any animal, he is getting used to it and learning to enjoy the experience. I think he will find comfort. He is relaxed anytime I had it on him so he does not mind wearing it. It is baby steps with him, for certain!
The Rein Coat is available in two different styles – Classic and UltraLight. The Classic coat, made from three-layer tricot polyester fleece. The UltraLight coat is made of ripstop, an extremely thin but strong fabric that is ideal for pets in warmer climates. The harness, which is adjustable in seven places to custom fit the pet, features lightweight, military grade buckles and 800-lb. break strength straps. Plus it is available in sizes that would fit a cat too! Check it out.

Very informative, Charlie my puggle has all kinds of anxiety!
I have heard of people using this vest with mixed results. I think it would be worth a try as opposed to medications.
I havent heard of this brand but am familiar with others. Our dog is adopted and the only thing he is afraid of is getting his nails cut. He is a larger dog and has to be be semi sedated he actually screams. I dont know what causes it and we have worked for yers to make it better to no avail. I dont think this coat would work for that but it may!
It must be so hard for animals to be uprooted from their surroundings and to find themselves in a new unfamiliar home. We’ve had our current dog for about two years, and I think he’s only now showing signs that he finally believes he belongs here. Fortunately, he doesn’t seem to have any anxiety issues, but our previous dog was very anxious. We actually had him on medication for it, which helped a lot. We also did a lot of behavior modifications (both for him and for us!), and it was heartwarming to see how he changed over the years. He never got over his fear of loud noises, and I spent many thunderstorms holding him in an enclosed space, where he felt safe. I hope Louie finds some relief in his new jacket.
I have not heard of,this type of coat for dogs , but it seems like a great idea to help calm your pet.
I have not heard of this brand but I have seen some other brands in the pet store thanks for sharing I wondered if they worked.
I am not familiar with this type of coat but for those of us with anxious pets, it is certainly worth trying!
I’ve not heard of these. An online friend has had trouble with her cat’s anxiety for several weeks now, so she may find this helpful.
