Every January the state of Pennsylvania hosts the annual PA. Farm Show here in Harrisburg, PA. This event attracts thousands of visitors to our local area during the course of the week. Traffic is a nightmare, hotels are over-booked and there are long lines for just about everything you would want to do!
The number #1 business here in the state is Agriculture and it is a way for local area farmers and businesses to show off their livestock, farming equipment, locally grown produce, homegrown food & beverages, handicrafts and all sorts of other things. The event and expo is free and open to the public.
When you go you can walk through all of the various buildings and displays and get up close & personal with cows, alpacas, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, geese, ducks, rabbits and all sorts of other farm-raised animals in PA.
You can participate in guest challenges, professional cooking demonstrations, take a ride on a tractor or horse, taste-test the hundreds of different foods they have on display, watch a rodeo show, cattle judging, horse & tractor pulls and all sorts of fun things that they have going on during the week.
On this particular day (see photo above) my family enjoyed watching some cattle judging that was going on. It is really interesting to see what those judges are looking for and how they determine the winner. Long process, but interesting indeed.
Have you ever attended something like this? If you are ever in the area during the #2 week in January, we highly suggest that you check out the Pennsylvania Farm Show for some fun family activities!

I don’t live anywhere near there but it sounds like an interesting event. I would like the cooking demonstrations and taste testing.
Yep, been to a few of these in my childhood. I always liked the food & crafts sections, but I think things like tractor pulls were the most popular things!
I have never been to a state fair where cows were being judged. The entire experience looks like a lot of fun even with long lines.
We have the National Western Stock Show here in Denver every January. I go about every other year. Fun!
Growing up in Ohio, I was big into 4-H so I would love this. I miss it, living in the big city of L.A. I do get to experience the traffic, long lines, and waiting for everything, so there’s that, lol
We have several of these on our state. I dont think any onvolving livestock though are held in the winter, it would be too tough on the animals and on the folks hauling trailers. The most interesting one I saw last year had llamas and alpacas. It was fun watching them.
The picture tells it all! Looks like a lot of fun. When I was a young girl my Dad would take us to Fairs that kind of reminded me of this. Glad you had a great time..
