Dining at Buffet Style Restaurants

February 11, 2015 by Shelly

Dining at Buffet Style RestaurantsHow many of you enjoy dining at buffet restaurants? Personally, I don’t and I usually avoid them whenever I can. While I know they can be a great money-saver while dining out, I did see a report a few years ago on a local news station that totally freaked me out.

On this particular report – news segment they investigated the cleanliness of 3 local buffet-style restaurants. All three of them failed the grade if you know what I mean.

They found that employees were not washing their hands, food sat out on these buffet tables way too long, cold foods were not cold enough, hot foods were way too cold and that there was a cross-contamination of germs everywhere.

On top of all of that, each of these 3 restaurants had issues with food inspections and customers were getting sick from time-to-time. Ever since I saw that report…I get sick to my tummy just thinking about dining at one of those types of place. Sigh.

So today, I wanted to get all of your thoughts on what you think about dining at buffet-style restaurants? Good or bad? Let me hear it!

I rarely dine out at buffet restaurants anymore. I typically find that the food doesn’t look appetizing to me. I would rather eat where the food is fresh.

After reading your post it gives me hesitation to eat at buffets.
A downside for me is that I eat way too much!

For me, buffets are usually a waste of money because I can’t eat very much at one sitting. When we eat out, I always end up taking home half of my meal, which usually gives me at least one or two meals at home, but you can’t take home your leftovers from a buffet. One of the better restaurants around here has a lovely weekend brunch buffet, and we’ve sometimes met friends there, but it’s a lot of money and I always feel guilty.

There is one buffet style restaurant that I really like in our area because I LOVE their salad bar it is the best in town. I am scared to touch the different spoons that they have in the food though and I always grab a napkin and make sure my hand does not touch the serving spoons.

One time when I was there, I was in the restroom and this woman came out of the stall after being in there for a long time if you know what I mean!!!! As I was washing my hands she walked right out the door without washing her hands!!!!!! What made me even more sick was that she was wearing medicals scrubs!!

We don’t eat out that often and we prefer a nice setting when we do eat out. When my kids were young I liked a buffet style restaurant to help fill them up.

Buffets are nice when there’s a growing teenager in the family and can fill his hollow leg. Other than that, I don’t like buffets and would rather be served a nice meal when I go out to eat.

I actually like buffets and don’t have a problem with them at all. I don’t think it makes a difference how much the food costs or how fancy, you cant guarantee someone is or isnt washing their hands, or not doing other disgusting things.
For us , buffets are an affordable way to have a variety of items to choose from, and the ones we go to, we feel comfortable visiting.
    I am pro buffet.

We really don’t have anything like that where we live except for a few Chinese restaurants. We go to the biggest one but I do make sure that they have passed their health dept. inspection.

You know something I am not too turned on about them either. I have noticed the last few times we went the restaurant wasn’t looking too clean. So I stopped going awhile ago!! Chinese Restaurants hit me the same way!! May be a big fancy one would be ok , but we used to go to local ones… I would rather go to a very nice Restaurant that has pretty much anything you want. You may pay more but your health and your families health is worth it!!
