Last Call by Alice Clayton Book Review

January 17, 2015 by Classystaff

There is one main reason that I enjoy a good romance novel and that is the swoon-worthy guys are just so adorable. It’s fun to be able to dream about being taken care of by some of these guys the authors create. I love reading the books by Alice Clayton because she crafts such beautiful stories with real characters that you wish you knew. I am thrilled to bring you the final installment of the Cocktail series, all of which have been featured here on our blog.

Synopsis: From New York Times bestselling author Alice Clayton, known for her “deliciously addictive” (The Book Vixen) novels, this Cocktail series novella reunites readers with Caroline and Simon from the wildly successful Wallbanger.

Simon and Caroline are back for another round of baking, banging, and big life changes. Settling in, but never settling down, Caroline has finally struck a balance between the professional and the personal. As one of the top interior designers in San Francisco, she travels all over Northern California between nook time with Simon.

Perpetual globetrotter Simon has cut his frequent flyer miles in half over the last year, preferring to balance his professional and personal life, as well.

The next step in their lives seems preordained–toasts, veils, and the aisle of rose petals. But when an accident on a photo shoot in Southeast Asia brings Caroline the most terrifying phone call she could ever imagine, she has to ask whether “till death do us part” is a more realistic prospect than faces most couples.

It’s been a grand adventure, and Caroline and Simon wouldn’t go out without the best surprise ending ever. One part sexy, one part laughter, a dash of exotic locales, and one pink nightie, mixed with passion, and you’ve got Last Call. Served with a side of Clive.

My Thoughts: One of my favorite books was Alice Clayton’s first book Wallbanger. A funny, chick lit romance novel featuring wonderful characters that I fell in love with. In this final installment of the Cocktail series, we get to re-visit the 2 stars and finish up their story.

This book is what is considered a novella. It is not a full length book and can mainly be found as an ebook, although this one is also available in print. This book is a quick and easy read that I finished in just a few hours. I have to tell you, I tried to read it as slow as possible. I did not want this book to end. Simon is one of my favorite book boyfriends. I think I could easily fall for him if he really existed! LOL And in this story, he really shined.

Alice is a wonderful author with a great sense of humor that comes through in her writing in a sexy, fun way. This book does not load you up on drama and angst to fill the pages. It is a delightful story with an amazing ending. I might have shed a few tears, but I will never confirm that!

If you have not read any of Alice Clayton’s books, you should. While this book can stand alone, it is so much better to read Wallbanger first and then this one, if you do not want to do the whole series. I know you will enjoy them as much as I did.

I love these quick reads. There are times when I don’t want to get emotionally involved in what I am reading but just want an escape and this seems perfect for that.

This review definitely made me want to go to the library and get Wallbanger as well as this novella. These books by Alice cLayton sound funny, sexy, thrilling and easy to read.

Romance is not my genre, but Last Call by Alice Clayton does sound interesting. I would give Last Call a read, if only to read about your favorite book boyfriend. Thank you for sharing this review.

That’s a steamy book cover, woo-hoo! I don’t go in for romance/chick lit generally, but this one has me intrigued! Must be the cover!

I love reading and dreaming that my prince charming will have the characteristics and traits in books like this! I know they are out there, just gotta find one 🙂 I am definitely going to pick this one up to read next. Thanks for the review and getting my interest peaked in Simon!
