As a parent and grandparent I feel it is very important that all children get swim lessons at a very early age. A lot of kids are curious about water and many of them love it and are not afraid of it. Because of that, kids need to learn how to swim at a young age.
The princess spends a lot of time in the pool every year and she finally is old enough to get professional swim lessons. Last week she had her first official swim lesson and it went well. Matter of fact, she loved it!
In the photo above, she is in the middle with the one-piece swimming suit on. All of the kids had to sit on the edge of the pool until it was their turn to get into the water with the instructor. She looked darling and at first was a little scared but within minutes, she was like a “fish” in that water!
How many of you know how to swim? Did you ever get your kids or grand kids swimming lessons? How do you feel about children learning how to swim at a young age? Personally, I think ALL children should be taught how to swim by a licensed professional.
Anyway, that is my Almost Wordless Wednesday photo for this week. Enjoy!

I had my daughter at 2, and my son at 5 take swimming lessons at the local park. The only thing you MUST teach the children is to be careful of currents. My daughter became a fish in water.
I wish we had done this when our kids were younger. I think it makes such a difference in how comfortable kids feels around the water.
My niece & nephews are 11, 9, & 5, & all love water! Of course, the 5 year old still has to wear his floatees, lol, but he can swim with the best, & the other 2 can swim, too. I agree that kids should be taught how to swim at a young age. They are just too drawn to water!
I agree that it is a good idea to teach children to swim at a very young age. It is usually easier for the child to learn then and it is important for every one to have this skill
We are a water family. Our children were swimming as they walked. Our son had lessons but our daughter learned as we went. I think lessons are very important. Our neighbor used to be afraid of the water. She didn’t want her kids to be and she wanted them to be able to swim, knowing do a lot to save them. She would bring them over to our poor and get in herself. My daughter is grown now but she taught them to swim, and eventually even the mom was swimming. It’s good to have knowledge of swimming because you never know when you will need it. Plus, it’s great exercise and fun for most.
I didn’t learn to swim until I was about 8 or 9. But I think this is a MUST, for every child. I used to live in a state where allmost every home had a swimming pool, and all year long, there were tragedies of toddlers (or even older) falling into the pool and drowning. If I had a young child now, I would find one of those baby-swimming classes!
My mother was a swim instructor and my sister and I could swim almost before we could walk. Now at age 66 I swim 3 times a week. All children should learn to swim at an early age.
I grew up in a small village but darn if my mom didn’t find a way to get us girls swimming lessons at the only pool in the area. Now I live by the Pacific Ocean and so glad I can swim or tread water (if needed).
We lived in FL when my first son was born and he was taught to swim at age 9 months.
That’s just what I was talking about. 9 months – good for you!
I was taught to swim at a very young age, and I am grateful. I thought everyone had the same upbringing. I was 40 years old before I realized how very blessed I was. I have met so many people that cannot swim, and they are scared to be around water. That is really sad. I love water. It has been a constant source of enjoyment, relaxation and rehab throughout my life.
I do wish I let my children have swim lessons when they were young. I do agree that is important to learn how to swim. I am not a good swimmer either.
