Ham and Potato Chowder Recipe

January 29, 2015 by Classystaff

It has been so overcast and foggy here for the past month, it is crazy. The fog makes it a damp cold that just seeps into your skin. I am seriously missing the sun! So the other night it was very chilly, a perfect night for a big bowl of soup! We had some leftover ham in the freezer from the holidays and some potatoes. Just the right fixings for a hot bowl of Ham chowder.

Easy Ham and Potato Chowder Recipe

Fast Ham and Potato Chowder Recipe

1 Cup Diced Ham
1 Cup peeled and diced potatoes
1/2 small diced onion
1 stalk of celery, chopped
2 cups Chicken Broth
1 tbsp Butter
1/2 cup Flour
2 1/3 cup Milk
Salt & Pepper

Directions: In a sauce pan, saute the celery and onions in melted butter until softened. Add the chicken broth and potatoes. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat and cover for 10-15 minutes until the potatoes are softened. Add the ham chunks to warm through.

In a small bowl, combine the milk and flour with a whisk. Then slowly whisk it into the soup. Bring the chowder to a boil to allow the soup to thicken. Add additional flour slowly, if needed. Salt and pepper to taste.

Serve on a cold night with crusty bread and enjoy!

We are in the midst of foggy and cold weather so I think this would be the perfect meal for tonight. Looks delish.

This is a nice, hearty soup, one that would be a great meal on one of these cold nights. I’d use turkey ham, since I don’t eat pork, and I always have my own chicken stock in the freezer. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

What makes a soup a chowder? I know clam chowder but never heard of ham chowder.

Yum, chowder is always a nice idea for dinner. I can’t wait to try this, I’ll use chicken or turkey in place of the ham. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
