Not every house is a home. It takes a special touch, and the right kind of accessories, in order for a house to truly feel like a home. The homewares you choose to fill your house could make all the difference in the world. From simple additions such as candles, to more involved homewares, such as lighting, your goal shouldn’t be necessarily to add accessories piece by piece, but rather trying to create an overall mood and décor for your home. Here are 3 great homewares ideas you can find in Sydney that will help your house feel more like a home.
1. Get creative with your home’s lighting – These days you have so many options when it comes to your home’s lighting. Specifically, we’re talking about your many options for chandeliers. There used to be a time when chandeliers were only fitting for a specific type of room or atmosphere. But that’s no longer the case. You now have wonderful choices in chandeliers, including natural colors, whitewash colors and more. These natural-looking chandeliers help to reimagine the concept of lighting, and help you to see that your lighting options are nearly endless.
2. Ottomans and stools. An important thing to remember about homewares in Sydney is that your homewares shouldn’t just look good. They should serve a purpose. That’s exactly what ottomans and stools provide. Ottomans are pretty versatile in that they can be used as a footstool and as another seat. When it comes to ottomans and stools, you can now find the most gorgeous looking pieces of furniture that also live up to their functionality.
3. The artistry of rugs. Rugs are pieces of art that add so much to your home. If you have a rug in a room, you have a homeware that sparks conversation and can become either a focal point, or a perfect complementary piece. The added benefit is that rugs help to provide warmth and sound insulation to your room, which can help to lower our energy bills.
Homewares are certainly meant to be beautiful, but they’re also meant to be functional as well. Your goal when looking for homewares in Sydney is to make sure you walk the fine line of beauty and functionality. I want to get creative with my home’s homewards without overdoing it. I could change some of the lighting. I already have the ottomans. I could consider some bar stools.
I do have to get creative with my home’s lighting. I just feel like there is never enough light and I do have to update my fixtures too.
Lighting is the most frustrating thing in our house! Whoever designed this house decided to not put any overhead lighting & the light switches only work with one outlet in each room (never the one you wish!) So aggravating!
I have some ottomans that are also used as storage. I love have items that look good and are functional.
Lighting really does make a house look so much better. I added new lights in the Kitchen and it really helped me with my cooking and cleaning. I have some nice rugs in my house that really add a lot of charm.
You are right in the small touches making it home. What we add and the important to us pieces give it character and warmth. Rugs and pillows are great ways to add, color, style, and just make it feel like home. Go with your personality.
I have a Flokati rug that I got in Turkey which is a lovely addition to my living room.
Sandy I share your clutter concerns! I am getting more donations together so I can declutter and once again am considering giving away my perfectly lovely ottoman. I wish it was also used for storage but it is big and on it’s side for now, out of the way. When I get it out, it’s great for my feet and to help with some yoga postures. I will have to find some more creative storage options I guess!
Very true that a house is not necessarily a home. The apartment I live is shared with my mom and brother, and everything is all cluttered all over the place, with no eye as to form or function. There’s nothing I can do about it. I’ve seen Salvation Army and Goodwill sets that looked nicer. (pardon my whining!)
