The Life Intended by Kristin Harmel Book Review

December 24, 2014 by Classystaff

I was really looking forward to reading this book. Just from the synopsis, I knew it was going to be touching and amazing. I was not wrong and I cannot wait to share this story with you! It is powerful how strong memories can be and where they can bring us in our life. You have to check out this new novel.

About the Book: From the author of the international bestseller The Sweetness of Forgetting, named one of the Best Books of Summer 2012 by Marie Claire magazine, comes a captivating novel about the struggle to overcome the past when our memories refuse to be forgotten.

In this richly told story where Sliding Doors meets P.S. I Love You, Kristin Harmel weaves a heart-wrenching tale that asks: what does it take to move forward in life without forgetting the past?

After her husband’s sudden death over ten years ago, Kate Waithman never expected to be lucky enough to find another love of her life. But now she’s planning her second walk down the aisle to a perfectly nice man. So why isn’t she more excited?

At first, Kate blames her lack of sleep on stress. But when she starts seeing Patrick, her late husband, in her dreams, she begins to wonder if she’s really ready to move on. Is Patrick trying to tell her something? Attempting to navigate between dreams and reality, Kate must uncover her husband’s hidden message. Her quest leads her to a sign language class and into the New York City foster system, where she finds rewards greater than she could have imagined.

My Thoughts: A heartwarming book just does so many good things for the soul. I was so excited to start reading this book. I knew it would be amazing and I was not wrong. This story is very interesting because it reminds us just how powerful the mind can be. In some places, you really think that Kate is losing it, but yet as she continues on her journey and begins to follow the direction her dreams take her, you realize she is all there and on a very important path to find happiness and a life she deserves.

This book is very engrossing as you travel with Kate through her dreams and her present life. Gosh, I just could not put it down. The author created a strong woman in Kate as she tries to get on with her life after Patrick and enjoy life without him. But why does she feel guilt?

The author has created a beautiful and touching read. I was sucked into the story and found myself losing track of time as I realized that the power of love, grief, guilt, and family is so richly spoken in this book. Be prepared and know that this book will be with you long after you finish. Plus it will be one that you will read again and again! You might even need a tissue or two….

Not only can memories be powerful, they can also be wrong. I know that my sisters and I disagree on how some things when down when we were kids. We all saw them from our individual perspective and that took us in different directions with the memory. So I’d like to see what the authors view is on all of that.
