Christmas is ten days away now and I am sure many of us are super busy these last few days leading up to the holiday. I know for myself, I have been busy wrapping gifts, cleaning the house, decorating, baking and of course, cooking!
So, that leads me to our question today. How many of you cook a ham on Christmas? Turkey? or do you do something else? For Christmas…we always make a nice ham and a roast beef. That way dinner guests can choose whichever one that they would like.
Do you typically make Christmas dinner and host guests at your home or do you usually go out? Do you go way out and make a ton of different dishes or do you just whip up a few basic things? For those of you who do cook…do you stick to the same old family favorite recipes or do you like to experiment with new ones every year?
I would love to hear about your holiday cooking and baking habits if you are willing to share!!!

We had a carry-in dinner at my mother-in-law’s home. We all brought different dishes and drinks and then pitched in on helping to make the turkey and dishes she wanted to contribute. It worked out really well.
We went to My Sisters Home for Christmas..Our whole family gets together Christmas Day. We had Ham. Lasagna, & a polish Sausage dish called Kappas. I loved it so tasty! New years will be at Home with my Honey and I will make a nice Beef Roast. Hope you Have a Wonderful New Year!! God Bless~
We usually host for Christmas and our choice is ham with scalloped potatoes and lots of other side dishes. Carrot cake is our favorite dessert but we have other sweets as well.
We have ham at one family’s house and lasagna at the other! No turkey here, that’s saved for Thanksgiving!
(Christmas Dinner: Ham or Turkey) I have this one figured out for sure, WE HAVE BOTH every year!!!!!!
I definitely prefer ham to turkey. I’ve never been much of a turkey fan, but I do make one for those who like it. My favorite dish is definitely Cornbread sausage dressing, using my Grandma’s recipe.
We usually have both ham and turkey at my parents’ and my in-laws house. We always have plenty of yummy leftovers.
My mom and dad will be so thrilled to get the ham and cheese gift set that The Wisconsin Cheeseman sent them from the giveaway I won here. They are elderly and appreciate when they don’t have to cook at the holidays. Thanks again!
We (when I cook) have a ham, scalloped potatoes, broccoli or cauliflower, yams an a dessert of some kind. For the last few years we have chsen to help serve both Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at a community meal. Christmas isnt the same since quite a few family members arent with us and serving a meal and bringing a smile somehow feels right.
This year we’re having Prime Rib since it was on a good sale. Sometimes turkey, rarely ham.
We usually make a ham and a turkey and we make the same dishes every time, it’s sort of like a formula. We have turkey, ham, macaroni salad, potato salad, stuffing, mashed potatoes, rice, gravy, cranberry sauce, rolls, green beans, and for dessert apple pie, pumpkin pie, and ice cream.
We make a ham every year and a ton of sides and desserts. My grown kids each have their favorites and I end up fixing a few requests for each one of them. But I also try to throw in something new because, as I tell them, you never know when the next favorite will show up! A few years ago I made pulled pork hash for brunch ( we always have a brunch while opening gifts and then an evening dinner) and they all just loved it. This year I am trying some kielbasa/pineapple bites and a new snack – Christmas crunch with popcorn, pretzels, m&ms, melted vanilla candies and holiday sprinkles. I am so happy my daughter is grown now and can help with the cooking!!
