Sweet and Spicy Smoked Sausage Recipe

October 30, 2014 by Shelly

sweet n sour sausage recipeWhat do you think of when it comes to fall? No matter what your favorite seasonal activity is, the best way to celebrate the season is with the delicious, signature flavors of autumn like pumpkin, squash and apple butter.

Recently I was asked to try out the Musselman’s Apple Butter in a recipe and I was more than happy to do that since we already love the product! Here is the recipe:

Sweet and Spicy Smoked Sausage Recipe
Recipe Type: Appetizer
Cuisine: American
Author: Two Classy Chics
Prep time: 5 mins
Cook time: 15 mins
Total time: 20 mins
This recipe only requires 6 simple ingredients. It is great served as an appetizer, lunch or as dinner.
Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 12 oz. Smoked Sausage, sliced in 1/2″ pieces
  • 1/2 cup Musselman’s Apple Butter
  • 3 Tbsp. Dijon Mustard
  • 2 Tbsp. Ketchup
  • 1 Dash Hot Sauce
Instructions
  1. In a large frying pan, heat oil on medium heat. Brown sausage for about 5 minutes. In a small bowl mix together apple butter, mustard, ketchup and hot sauce. Pour the sauce over the sausage and stir well. Turn heat down to low and simmer uncovered for 5 to 10 minutes or until sauce is bubbling.
  2. Serve sausage pieces on toothpicks.

My family completely devoured those sausage bites in less than 30 minutes. Matter of fact, they are begging me to make another batch. With all of the fall and holiday parties & entertaining upon us…I will definitely be making these appetizers all season long!

Musselman’s Apple Butter can be used in all kinds of delicious recipes! Try it in cakes, pies, brownies, breads, muffins and as a meat or fish marinade. Try some apple butter over the top of vanilla ice cream or let the kids use it as a dipping sauce with their favorite sliced fruits. Β It is delicious and a great way for you to enjoy some flavors of the season.
