Outdoor Exercise Tips for Cold and Wet Weather

Just because the seasons change doesn’t mean that many of us do not enjoy to exercise outdoors still. Runners, walkers and even some bike riders don’t let a little wet weather stop them from enjoying the activities they love. All that is needed is a bit of change in clothing and some tips for staying safe in inclement weather. Here are somethings to think about.

Outdoor Exercise Tips for Cold, Wet Weather

* Always do your warmups with light stretching before heading outdoors. In colder weather, you may not recognize pulls and strained muscles right away

* Make sure to cool down when you are finished so your body can adjust to temperature changes more easily.

* Layer your clothing so you can remove a jacket or coverup should you get too hot

* Choose clothing that is made to wick away moisture. You may not realize that you are sweating in colder weather, but you still do

* Make sure to hydrate as normal before heading out and while exercising. Again, you may not feel like you are perspiring, but you are.

* Keep aware of your surroundings and remember that vehicles may not see you as well in wet weather. Stay off roadways

* Wear reflective tape on your clothing or bright outerwear so others can see you a bit more easily

* Make sure to wear the proper footwear that has a bottom for wet conditions.

Keeping yourself safe and healthy is the number one priority when it comes to exercise. Choosing to work out in the cold and wet means that you need to take a bit for can. But the benefits are worth it! Enjoy!

These are good tips . So many people who exercise do not realize that they have to be just as carful in colder weather

  2. Good tips. I’m a walker, and I find it especially important to wear bright and/or reflective clothing no matter what the weather. But in wet weather, good shoes that keep my feet dry are a must! There are few things as uncomfortable as trying to walk with cold, wet feet.

  3. Thanks for the tips. I tend to stay indoors during poor weather but I foresee some bike rides this fall and winter and I would prefer not to be completely miserable.

  4. Great tips especially to dress in layers. I hate working out in cold or wet weather but these tips are really great maybe I will get out there more thanks for sharing these.

For us its snow coming, so layers are the biig thing. I would also say to wear sunglasses when its windy- debris in the eyes is no fun, and if its snoowy it helps you see better.

  6. I always liked the maxim: There’s no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes.
My exercise is swimming in a heated pool.
    Beautiful picture.

  7. I always layer my clothes & have awesome proper shoes when going out for a morning run when it’s chilly and wet out. You must be prepared.
