Ava is a mischievous young girl and martial arts student who really knows how to pack a punch! One day she meets Lala, a cuddly and kind tiger-like creature, and they discover they can talk to each other. She runs way from her village to join Lala in a mystical kingdom of wonderful animals, all specially chosen to live there, safe from humans. They befriend a huge bear who has a heart of gold. Uncle Bear, who tells them that Lala must leave the kingdom in three days, before the fierce Tiger General finds out they’re there. Uncle Bear is determined to help Ava escape, but they find out it’s not that easy, especially when the other animals discover that Lala has an extraordinary magical power. When Lala is captured, it’s up to Ava and Uncle Bear to rescue him in time to get Ava safely back home.
My Thoughts: This film is good for families to watch. Ava is portrayed to be tough and seems to be a little rude and sarcastic. There are also some animals that have rude humor, plus some action scenes, so this movie is rated PG.
The animation was done well, and the dialogue was easy for people of different ages to understand. It was entertaining for both child and adult. This animated movie was something my niece (almost 3 years old) enjoyed. She usually gets too distracted from most movies, but she was interested the entire time. My 15 year old nephew didn’t want to admit it, but he liked it too. The movie had some pretty humorous scenes.
The movie had a very different plot than I’ve ever seen before. It talks about the ideal world that animals should have (without us humans interfering, destroying environments, etc.) Ava runs away from home and goes to the animal sanctuary world of Cloud Land.
Lala the “Liger”, is very unique, and has a very special magical power. He is kind, and the voice of reason, and is the one who gives out sound advice about life skills to Ava. Ava is a tough girl who wants to seek her own way, and her curiosity can get her into some trouble! They are being helped by the Mr. Bear so Ava could get back home. Little do they know that Lala is the one who needs help.
Ava decides to say in Cloud Land and help her friend and save him from the evil Tiger General. Ava learns to think of others and help save them, and by doing so, she saved herself.
Overall, I enjoyed the movie and my family did so as well. I thought it was funny, imaginative, adventurous, and sweet. I loved to hear the famous voices of George Takei, Tom Arnold, JK Simmons, and Mira Sorvino. Ava & Lala is available on DVD October 7, 2014.
