7 Tips for Proper Cosmetic Storage and Usage

October 4, 2014 by Classystaff

I believe that cosmetics are a special commodity to women. I love what they can do to your skin and how they can make your feel when you find the perfect products for you. Just the right color of foundation can take your skin from so-so to awesome. The right moisturizer can transform those wrinkles and lines and take you back 10 years. Even the right mascara can lengthen your lashes and enhance your eyes making them pop.

As much as we love our cosmetics, it is important that we take care of these products properly so that they can continue to enhance and beautify our skin for a long time.
7 Tips for Proper Cosmetic Storage and Usage

Here are 7 Tips for Proper Cosmetic Storage and Usage

* You should never store your cosmetics in extreme temperatures. A steady temperature between 55 and 80 is best.

* You should never store your cosmetics in direct sunlight which can cause them to melt, discolor or fade.

* Never add water to any of your liquid cosmetics to stretch or thin them down as adding water can cause bacteria growth.

* Always wash your hands before applying cosmetics and immediately afterwards. If you have bacteria and germs on your hands and fingertips, you just transferred that to all of your cosmetics that you touched.

* Bathrooms are typically very moisture-rich and usually contain high levels of humidity. All of these can cause your cosmetics to go bad quicker. Store your cosmetics in a drawer, bag, or container or on a vanity top that is not located in your moist bathroom.

* You should never share your cosmetics or skin care products with others. Sharing or passing around your beauty products with other people allow for cross-contamination of germs.

* If you recently had a cold or infection you should toss out any lip care products that you used prior and during that infection. The same thing goes for eye care products if you recently had an eye infection too!

Store and treat your cosmetics with care and they will treat your skin with care in return. Using these seven tips will help you maintain the integrity of the product for a long time.

I never thought about germs in the bathroom for cosmetics, I do keep mine in my bedroom. Great tips for tossing items if you have had an infection. Thanks.

Great tips and advice. I’m bad and keep mine way too long but I do try to follow some safety tips on storage. The hard one for me is not keeping them in h bathroom. Since that is where I apply, it’s just natural to keep them there. I hadn’t thought about the moisture causing bacteria. You definitely want to be careful…your face is sensitive and needs care.

These are wonderful tips. I never thought about how I might be transferring bacteria to my cosmetics and now that I read your tips I wonder why I hadn’t realized that fact in the past. I certainly will never add water to my cosmetics.

Thank you for these great tips. I never new that about adding water causes bacteria to grow that is scary and gross. I have added water but that was so long ago I sure won’t do that again.

Very good tips on Cosmetic storage! I always make sure to wash my hands before and after when applying makeup. And I never share my makeup-to risky. I always keep my makeup in a big bag and keep it away from the bathroom and direct sunlight.
