The Love-Hate Relationship With the ER
I have a love/hate relationship with the ER. This is not anything new but I got to experience it again last night. I always wonder why when people are ill, it always seems to hit the hardest in the late night or middle of the night. Have you ever wondered about that?
So my hubby has a lot of medical issues stemming from a very bad car wreck many years ago. Late last night he started having issues that he could not control and we ended up in the ER. Not my favorite place to be – or anyone’s, for that matter. One of the worst things about the ER where I live is that so many people use it as a regular doctors office. So you are stuck waiting behind people with coughs that demanded an x-ray when it was not warranted, wood in the eye that had been there for 2 days, pain management issues, and many other similar issues that could have been handled at an urgent care or doctors office. I Hate that!
I am not patient when it comes to having to wait to be seen. I hate seeing the entire family sitting in the waiting room when one person is ill. I hate thinking about all of the germs floating around. That freaks me out a bit. Ish. I specially hate how long it takes to get in and out. All Night! Ugh!
But there is one thing I do love about visiting the ER, believe it or not. For the most part, the nurses are very cool. I cannot think of one time that the nurses have been mean or not helpful. I respect the dedication and care that the nurses and doctors offer, especially when the ER is busy and they have a never ending line of people to see. I know I could never do that job. So kudos to the staff that works the ER. Even in their crazy world, they can bring a bit of sunshine and a smile to your face.
Do you have a love/hate relationship with the ER too? What is your best or worst experience?
