Incorporating Color and Design Ideas Into Your Baby’s Nursery

Browsing through the selection of colors that are considered trendy for 2015, you’ll see numerous dark, rich colors such as Red Dahlia, Steel Gray, Deep Mahogany, Crushed Grape and Seaport. At first you might not have considered using dark colors on the walls of your nursery, but they can provide you with an excellent opportunity for creating an elegant and impressive nursery decor.

Dark colored walls are an ideal backdrop for white, cream or antique gray baby furniture. With decals being a popular form of wall decor, you can make your walls visually interesting with the addition of light colored decal designs such as white birch trees with colorful birds sitting on the branches. White or silver picture frames are lovely placed on a dark colored wall. Dark walls, appropriate lighting, furniture and accessories in a light colored finish and some soft textures such as a shag rug can work together to create harmony in the decor.

The trend involving the combination of vintage and modern designs gives you an opportunity to create a nursery that’s elegantly serene with a touch of vintage charm. If you decide to go with dark walls, a vintage style distressed white crib with dainty detailing would be a perfect choice for the room. If you prefer a lighter color for the walls in your nursery, a vintage style crib in a pewter finish would provide an interesting contrast to the walls. If a vintage style crib in a gold finish catches your eye, you can incorporate it in a room with dark walls for a regal affect or light wall for elegant serenity.

Chances are, you don’t want to think about it, but you won’t need a crib in your nursery for very long. Your baby will quickly be ready for a “real” bed. Purchasing convertible cribs is a wise, money saving tactic. These cribs are available in finish options that are complementary to any color scheme you choose. You can read more here about the benefits and features of convertible cribs.

Keeping in mind how quickly a nursery decor needs to transition to a child friendly decor, you may want to select items for your nursery that can easily make the transition. One example would be a small bookcase that can be used as display space or a storage area in a nursery and later transition to a place for books and toys.
